HIGH HIGH IDLE

i've been looking for a thread about this subject but couldnt find one.

1. when cold my car idles at about 1750 rpms, could it be a vacuum leak. my engine light is on, and my boss is saying it might be a trouble code that has to do with open-close loop.

2. my throttle sticks when i leave off gas hard. i checked inside, and the butterflies are chiped and the egde is rubbing against the side. should i buy a new TB or just see if its fixable

Re: HIGH HIGH IDLE

It sounds like its time for a new TBI base. The high idle is due to the throttle not closing properly. The butterflies are actually radiused on the edges so they fit snugly in the bores and maintain a seal at low throttle angles. With them scraped up and the throttle bores damaged as you described, even new butterflies wont help. The damage is likely from the base being worn around the throttle shaft, which causes the butterflies to contact the bore walls.
