does anyone have a list that tells what all the flash and pauses codes are?
like flash pause flash flash is "12" is their a list that shows all the combos?

I would think most full service auto part stores can link diagnostic tester to ALDL and do for free.

 

But you don't need a parts store...You just need a paper clip, or short length of wire.

Autozone has a "key", but it is really just an uncut key, with 2 prongs. My local Autozones give them away all the time.

And code 12 is "All Clear, No Errors)

Nope...Not on OBD1 systems they can't. All they can do is blink the lights & read too.

Only on later OBD systems does it read in words.

 

Correct, the GM "code module" they sell at checker is pretty much 2 connectors that plug into the ALDL and its serves the same function as a paper clip, causes the SES light to flash a series of codes.

The only exception where OBD reads in word is on a Tech1, for some ungodly reason my instructor has 5 of the ancient things.

Moral of the story, unless you want an archaic tool laying around, use a paper clip, stick it between the 2 terminals, watch the lights and count em up

Not for OBD1.....All a consumer can get is the flashing codes. NO real-time data is displayed. Use the paper clip or "key".

 

This is prob the most common code reader for OBD1

But as stated the paper clip is more cost effective

 

Sure there is, the MPSI-9000 hand held scan tool I paid $75 for years ago reads out the codes in plain English. Such as:

33 MAP SENSOR HIGH

And provides real time sensor data. You can read/see items such as the engine RPM, vehicle speed, MAP value in voltage and KPa as the engine is running.

Not sure why you don't think that ODBI can do this. GM systems have been this way since the advent of CCC setups.
