Best performance airbox/intake system for TBI??

Hey friends!

Just got an '88 Camaro RS! A bit nostalgic for me, I always love the 3rd gen lines since I was a kid!

-My question is in regards to the best performance air-cleaner system for my Camaro. It's a completely stock air cleaner, it seems like there should be an extended pipe for the airbox that's missing. I am definitely doing a K&N filter, probably with an open K&N air pan. What's the biggest size I can go up to that will fit under the stock hood, would that be the best performing system?

-Spectre performance has a dual intake, cold-air cleaner system as well. Any thoughts on that??

-Doing some shopping this weekend, any suggestions will help! Pretty much, is the K&N open pan system the best or the Spectre cold-air? Or what's out there??

Thanks yall for the help!

the spectre dual intake dont fit it says it does but it doesnt but then the single pleneum does from spectre thats what i had but i sold it for 60 so you shoud buy this

http://www.jegs.com/i/Spectre/865/98499/10002/-1 (pleneum)
http://www.jegs.com/i/Spectre/865/9719/10002/-1 (straight)
http://www.jegs.com/i/K%26amp%3BN/599/RE-0870/10002/-1 (K&N)

then there you have it a K&N CAI for like 160 thats alot but thats what i did but i didnt have the K&N i bought a cheap 20 filter lol

Re: Best performance airbox/intake system for TBI??

Currently running a Mr. Gasket open air element air cleaner 14" ($25) and bought a K&N 14"x3" ($50), went to home depot and bought a threaded rod to fit the tb base and bent it slightly to curve like the stock tb pole, and cut the tip ($1.99), this ran me about $80 at the end, for an open air element air cleaner. Cheap and does what it needs, i'd recommend it, but its really your chose. I wouldn't spend like $75 for an eldbrock air cleaner or anything to name brand for a high price, honestly mine does what it needs and i saved a bunch. but like i said your chose, need pictures i'll supply to give a better idea.

Think you could convert a Spectre Bonnet down to a tpi air box?

I've always run an L69 dual snorkel setup...not sure if this is considered good or not but I would think it's better than sucking hot air with an open element (I do a lot of low-speed city stop n' go stuff) and it can't be any worse than the stocker.

I modified a spectre intake to fit on a Ford Torino.. Bolted it to a 2X6 piece of wood and clamped it in a bridgeport.. Took off 1/2" of material where it goes on the carb and now it's perfect..

I'm running an Edelbrock base, 14" paper airfilter and a 14" K&N breather lid. You can hear it sucking air, loud as hell.
