I have a 89 camaro RS with the 350TBI swap(thought it was a tpi lol), and it still won't start after replacing the fuel pump and the fuel pump relay....

I can spray starting fluid or put a little bit of gas into the throttle body and it will crank over, but stall immediately. The car was fine from the time i got it last summer until i let it sit for a while. And it would not start after i tried to fire it up again. I'm not sure if that's what caused it, it might have been short on fuel as well.

Well I would change the fuel filter, that'd be the cheapest and easiest being as it could become clogged. Also, do a fuel pressure check. Sounds like your fuel pump is not priming. do you hear the pump when you turn the key to on? and how long did it sit?

 

The fuel pump does not prime at all, you can not hear it whatsoever. It was only sitting for about a month when the issue first occured. And at that time i was able to get it to start every once in a while, but it would stall when i gave it gas when it was put into gear. Then it sat for the rest of the winter.

 

In addition to DJ Delsym's suggestions:
Check fuse(s), power to the relay, ground wire on relay. You could try applying power directly to the fuel pump harness to verify that you have a good pump/harness.

 

Sounds like your Ignition Module....

 

You said " the motor was swapped for a 350 ". By chance was the 350 a tbi unit? Did you use the TBI off the stock 305? Was the ECU change also?

 

As far as what was in there before the 350, i can not tell you, because i purchased the vehicle with the 350 already in it.

We tried running the pump from the wires to the relay, wouldn't kick on...

So then we just hotwired it directly from the fuel pump, turned right on, and the car fired up without a problem, and stayed running while we had it connected.

So we're thinking, ignition module... correct? I'll probably just get one from Auto Zone tomorrow, from what i looked up, it's only about 38 bucks.

 

Ok so after replacing the ignition module, it didn't help whatsoever. Still have no prime in fuel pump/won't turn on.

Tried to do the same thing as i did last night(hotwire the fuel pump) to make sure the car still starts and runs, now it won't. The fuel seems to be getting to the TBI carb, but nothing is coming out of the injectors whatsoever. AHHHH this thing is killing me!!!

poured a bit of gas on the carb and it fired over, then ofcourse shut right off.

I can't figure this out....

 

I would check the power going to the relay and check the ground going to the relay . It sounds like a broken wire to me. Or it could very well be a BAD relay again. Even if it is a new relay you probably got a bad one. The relay has four pins wires on it: a positive (Battery) + a ground (negative) - a power wire going to the fuel pump when relay is engaged and a 12v trigger wire ignition, I would suggest checking the relay firslt . If the relay is in working order? I would go ahead and plug it back in and do a process of elimination. First a couple of wires with alligator clips on both ends. Go ahead and place a wire firmly clipped to the ground side of the battery to the ground pin/wire on the relay and try that. If that still fails try it on the positive from battery to the positive pin on the relay, Fails? try the 12v trigger wire with the battery + side. if that fails grab a test light make sure you have a strong ground for the test light. now place the point of the test light to the 12v trigger pin on the relay and have someone turn the key ignition on..You should get power if you do? you have either a bad fuel pump or a bad power wire going to the pump.
