wow south alabama got bio diesel and e85, boy WTF seen this stuff all over this great country for years now and they got it in my back door, and its atleast 25 cents cheaper than low grade.......

ANYWAY with my mods i got to run high test....can i run e85 with no mods, or like a half and half mix or anything

 

E85 can be run in a car with very few modifications.

1.) You will need an aftermarket fuel pump or more voltage to the stock pump.
2.) You will need very large aftermarket injectors. 65# at LEAST.
3.) Your current tune on your vehicle will need a 30% increase to the existing IFR (Injector Flow Rate) tables. You will want to tune for pump gas IFR tables on the new injectors, THEN take 30% of that number for the new IFR value.
4.) You will need to a MAF or VE, (volumetric efficiency) tune for the new IFR tables on E85.
5.) You will need an wideband Air to Fuel Ratio gauge to monitor your AFR's.
6.) You will need an E85 gas pump 8)

I would actually do all these mods if I had a E85 pump near me because it is cleaner and can yield more power and if your running boost its a whole different story and a good one at that. Its going to be a necessary modification in the coming years for our cars because of the changes in the oil market and the accessibility of ethanol and bio fuel's.

Oh and you have to go to a gasket that is alcohol safe on the intake side because of the deterioration on cork gaskets, If anyone from the 60s-70s remembers gasahol and the problems it caused cars back then will know what im talking about.

 

I run my -87 350 TBI Chevy Van on E85 and the only mod is the EBL Flash with E85 settings from SR-71´s Excel spreadsheet in this thread, https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/diy-...flex-fuel.html, everything else is stock from factory. It runs great and the only issue is that it runs lean on WOT, but i dont race it so it doesnt matter. The stock 65# injectors stays way below 85% duty cycle during normal driving. At WOT i have seen 120% DC on the injectors, still the heavy Van accelerates normally. Fuel consumtion has raised with the normal ~30%.

 

So for a 12% price reduction, you get to use up 30% more fuel for the same power that you used to have, need to upgrade many components and reflash your computer and thus become dependent on E85 until you reflash again back to the old settings. Sounds like a win.


Not. Unless you can't do what you want to do with any of the regular gasoline grades, there's really no reason to decrease your mileage and options and go E85

 

Well, the difference in price is greater here in Sweden so i actually run it cheaper on E85. Last summer 1 gallon of 95 octane (91 US) cost 6.92 USD and 1 gallon of E85 cost 3.70 USD.
The only upgrade is the EBL Flash, i only need to change the memory bank depending on which fuel i use.

 

I'm also in progress of getting my E85 tune dialed in.

Vehicle is -89 G20 van with stock L05 350 TBI. Long (rusty) headers, 70mm plumbing to "turbo" mufflers with H-pipe, and diesel rear parts. Stock injectors, heated O2 in driver side collector, K&N air filter.

Did big mistake of changing too many things at once, namely fuel pump, EBL install, FPR with vacuum, Comp XE262H. Have 1:1.6 intake rockers.

What amazed me was how well EBL was able to handle idle. Stock '7747 couldn't idle when warm at all. And it passed smoke test with flying colors in inspection, after 9 years of standing in garage.

Now crappy headers are messing all tuning up.

Here liter of E85 costs 1.079 €, 95E10 costs 1.629 €. As reported by EBL E85 consumption is 2-4 km per liter, but when going to lean burn it's 5-7 km per liter. That's less than 20 liters per 100 km which is not bad at all.

Pre installing XE262H and EBL consumption was 15-20 l per 100 km in urban area, and on highways 13 liters. Winter or summer, air-cond on or towing trailer, full or empty.
