tbi linkage
tbi linkage
I was poking around y car today doing an oil change and checking out vissually the TBI. I notived the throttle linkage had about a quarter inch of play at the TBI at that slotted bracket on the cable itself.
I looked in the manual and there is no adjustment for it. I figure its due to wear and tear and the cable stretching.
So I bent the fixed bracket that is bolted to the manifold and took out around 95% of the play out. Then I reset the T.V. cable as per the manual.
I know the plugs, wires, cap and rotor are good. I did an oil and filter change and put moblie one syn oil for the first time. Guess I'll try it and see how it is for that 305.
Then I set my ignition timing to 4 deg, I had it set at 8 deg but at certain rpm under wot it would ping. Guess I'll try it out and see how she goes.
Anybody seen this play at the TBI before?
I could see a difference in the throttle blade position after taking the play out.

Re: tbi linkage
WOW
what a difference, smooth aceleration was noticable right away. Also the that 700r4 shifted was different as well. Before I would tromp the pedal to the floor and wonder if it was gonna down shift and sometimes it would and sometimes no. So the shifting was tons better. No more pinging as well. I may in a month and set her up to 8 deg again after running that syn oil for a while.
Christ I had an awsome ride tonight.
Next thing I want to see tommorrow is this....I'll have some one depress the gas pedal to the floor and see if the butterfly valves are fully open as compared to manually doing by hand at the bracket on the TBI.
Has anybody had issues with this as well?
