Re: CASH FOR CLUNKER HAS TO STOP!!!!
That is stupid, It makes no sense what so ever to destroy them. Like one of the comments said...producing a new car is worse for the enviroment than keeping an older one running...think of all the spare parts people could have used off that truck!
Man that has really p*ssed me off, I guess you have Obama to thank for it!

Re: CASH FOR CLUNKER HAS TO STOP!!!!
a good testament to the durability of the SBC, that thing ran with no oil at all, and a crankcase full of whatever **** it is they fill it with, and it ran for just about 3 minutes.
It seems that unless congress passes the new extension funding for cash for clunkers, it will end friday.
While i dont agree with the procedures for disposing of the old vehicle, many people wouldn't be able to get 3500-4500 bux for there old car, so this is perfect for them. It may not be good for other people, but as of now nobody is being forced to use cash for clunkers.
Its unfortunate that some nice cars will be lost to this program. But seriously, for the people complaining about 3rd gens and the like being destroyed by this program, there are so many 3rd gens out there its absurd, and a lot of them are worthless rust buckets, good for nothing except scrap and parts. To most people, a car is a means to get from point a to point b, nothing more. They dont care. And i dont think anybody who has cared enough to take care of their car is going to just junk it if its worth more than what you will get from mr Obama.
And the way i looks at it, the more they destroy, the more valuable mine become.

I'm not gonna cry over a rusty POS Tahoe. Pointless waste? Sure, that's what the gov't is good at.
As kris subtly points out, its about protecting manufacturing jobs, not the spare parts market. Not the best piece of legislation written, but I bet it is having an effect on car sales.

its the point of the wasted parts, motor,tires,body,trans,rear.absolutely nothing is salvaged.this is supposed to be a GREEN program.this is foolish and {will drive up the price of parts, meabye you dont understand that...........}
jensen73110 there destroying the motors.screw the truck
this is not protecting anything, GOVERMENT MOTORS dosent have to worry about jobs or money, this is gonna screw the average person years down the road.should have let the industry tank .

Re: CASH FOR CLUNKER HAS TO STOP!!!!
the motor needs to get lower than 18 MPG in order to qualify (sticker MPG from sale of car). Ive looked and our camaros dont qualify. sure some others do, but not everyone is going to do this cause it HAS to go towards a brand new car, that means payments and all. And its perfectly voluntary.

Re: CASH FOR CLUNKER HAS TO STOP!!!!
THERE IS NO DEMAND FOR THE AMOUNT OF CARS THEY ARE PRODUCING,SO THAT THEY CAN HAVE ONE UAW WORKER FOR EVERY LUG NUT ON A CAR GETTING PAID $80HR.THEY ARE TRYING TO PAY FOR GENERATIONS OF RETIREMENT AND WASTE WITH MORE WASTE,SO THEY START SHREDDING THE OLDER STUFF PEOPLE ARE RUNNING TO ELIMINATE THE PARTS SUPPLY AND FORCE EVERYONE TO MOVE ON.MOST PEOPLE CANT AFFORD TO MOVE ON. GOTTA LOVE IT. GOVERMENT MOTORS.

Now that is Change You Can Believe In. Anyone care to point out the section of the Constitution where this act of government is listed?
Next up: this becomes mandatory. For the children. Turn in your V8 "clunkers" to save the polar bears.

There are a lot of people on this site that are saying the same "please buddy, save it" to you as well. Don't fire up the grill if you cant take the flames. Oh and it is ending friday because it was so successful that the program ran out of money.

Re: CASH FOR CLUNKER HAS TO STOP!!!!
It has nothing to do with green. It is about the jobs, because if they let the entire US auto industry fail, you too would be out of a job too. 20+% unemployment in the US has been proven to kill many innocent people. 1 in 14 jobs in the US is tied to the auto industry, so that is what it was meant to protect. Other countries protect their vital industries, why shouldn't we?
Again, do we care if some 170 hp cast iron boat anchor is scrapped? Its not like they're crushing ZR1s. ~23,000 piles of crap (not all of them v8) are gone. Will ya miss 'em? How many hundreds of thousands of 3rd gens were made over the course of 11 years? Is it bad that our cars might increase in value due to this?
I smell what you're stepping in, but the Patriot Act was far worse.....
