Re: hp on a tbi?

In theory a modified TBI injection system can support more horsepower. That would be with larger bore throttle body, higher flow injectors, higher flow fuel pump, and higher pressure regulator.

Of course it won't make more horsepower than the engine is capable of.

Read the stickies at the top of the TBI forum, especially the one about the Budget TBI buildup. I am eventually expecting 350-375 horsepower from my semi-old-school 327 with TBI.

Depends on what you have done.....good set of heads, free flowing exhaust w/headers, larger cam, intake manifold, maybe different injection system than stock throttle body, it all depends on what you want to do to it and how much money you have....any motor is capable of making horsepower, but it is how you set it up and how much $$ you have to do it. I think the other guy is talking about the block itself only holding so much power....for example your not going to get 1000hp from the stock block.....it will blow the bottom out of it or split block. but you should be capable of getting 300hp from it without going to crazy....I've had fast 305's before myself. what are your goals for the car?? drag car, cruiser, street, road race, just some more power???

well my car is built its a 305 aluminum edelbrock heads, big intake, mild cam(trying to pass smog), crane roller rockers, msd ignition, edelbrock headers, flat top pistons, the only thing is thAt it has stock tbi n cooling system (fan radiator water pump etc.)
i BARELY passed smog(california car)

i honestly want a buff car not trying to be king of the road here in my town, but just a fast good loud mucle car that make people wonder whos driving that white horse and of course to keep the ricers hands sweating like i always have..

i converted it to manual (almost done) hopefully i can gain more hp or torque...so by my calculations if i get that hp tbi and custom chip i thing im gonna have a pretty bad *** RS

Re: hp on a tbi?

I was trying to say that the TBI system can be upgraded so that it is not the bottleneck at least up into the 350-375 horsepower range I mentioned.

My intent was to make sure you didn't misunderstand me and think by modifying the stock TBI system you could add power to a stock engine.

Obviously that was not a real concern (now we see that your engine is far from stock). At first glance, your first post looked like a newbie question (no offense) and I was trying not to give someone a false hope (like bigger TB = automatic 350 HP).

Anyway, for you it will all be a matter of proper fueling. You need to estimate your horsepower and convert that to the required max fuel flow for each injector. Refer to the Budget TBI Buildup sticky at the top of the TBI forum. It tells how to do this.
