I was in traffic about 150 miles away from home, and the engine stalled. I finally got it started, but it took a couple of tries. I thought I was screwed. When it started, it acted like a flooded carb. Before it started I could smell gas. I held down the throddle (hard to quit old school habbits), and It started as if it were a flooded carb clearing out. I would much appreciate suggestions.

 

the most common problem ive seen with tbi is the distributor pickup coil getting very rusty. just pull the cap and rotor and look for rust...good luck

 

Does a rusty pickup coil cause problems like this? I had a check engine light come on and off also. Not sure if it is related to this particular problem though.

 

on a tbi, not only does the distributor fire the spark plugs, but it also fires the injectors. if the pickup coil is making a noisy signal the engine will stall. most common at slower engine speeds... in traffic

 

I'm going to the parts store tomorrow. What does this part look like? is it under the cap? Anyway, sounds like a bullseye. If it were the pickup coil, would I smell gas when I attempted to start it?

 

you'll have to get the whole distributor. have you checked yours?

 

I'm gonna go to a guy that works on third gens, and has lots of parts. Is it something I can drive around with with out worry of not ever starting, or is it just an inconvenience? I would like to drive it this weekend locally with out calling a wrecker to haul it home.
