Do Firebird TBI's swap ?

I have a 91 Camaro RS with the TBI 305. It runs poorly with a lot of bog & hesitation. I'd like to replace the injectors and I wanted to know if the Firebird throttle bodies swap over or is it a Chevy only kinda thing ? I want to hit the junkyard for a complete throttle body that I can clean up & rebuild then swap onto the Camaro. Any help will be appreciated.

Re: Do Firebird TBI's swap ?

I am going to say yes, they are the same. I don't see any reason that the linkage would be different. I do know that the TBI bore size and injectors are identical.

I would try to get one within the same year range. I could see that maybe the TPS or IAC connector may have changed over the years.

Take some notes or a picture of both sides of the current one. Then take them to the yard with you. Note the throttle linkage, ports on the front, and the TPS & IAC connectors.

RBob.

Re: Do Firebird TBI's swap ?

The two that came on my trucks are different and they're the same year! Both 95's the S10 and the full size had different linkage and they wouldnt work on the other one. The S10 throttle cable comes from the front and attaches by a bracket bolted to the side of the TB, the full size comes from the rear and does not have holes to bolt the S10's bracket onto it. Also the very top part that holds the injectors down was different, the S10's had one more Torx screw holding it down, I was able to put the S10's onto the full size and just not use the last screw, to this day it still doesnt leak so it must be okay.

Re: Do Firebird TBI's swap ?

No, the ck engine light isn't lit. The airbag light is but that's all. I can't read the codes yet, my reader doesn't have a pigtail for a Chevy OBD-1. It runs like it's got a worn-out carb on it. Bogs down & hesitates. Once I get up to speed it runs fine but taking off from a light the more I put my foot into it the slower it goes until it feels like it's going to stall. If I back off the throttle or floor it it eventually stops stumbling & smooths out. The chassis has 180K on it & the engine is a complete unknown. Since it runs well otherwise and the MIL isn't lit I figured the injectors would be a good place to start. The only boneyard near me doesn't have many F-bodies and half of what they DO have are firebirds. Since downtime is something of a consideration for me I wanted to find a throttle body I could clean up, replace the injectors on and swap in as a rebuild unit.

My oldest will be driving soon & I picked this up as a project to rebuild with him. I've never done much with Chevy's before having always been a Blue Oval kinda guy. I guess Fate's having fun with me giving by me a kid who loves Camaro's. This is also the first injected car that I've built so this whole gig with sensors & tracking down problems with a multimeter is a bit new to me. I've installed a couple Pro-Jection TBI's on past builds but they were both pretty much plug-n-play and neither gave me any trouble.

If y'all don't think the problem lies with the injectors & the MIL isn't lit then what should I be looking at or doing ?

Any help or guidance will be appreciated.
