Another camshaft question thread.

I am looking for a good cam for in the future with my build. I came across this http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EDL-3702/ and would like input.

I have a 89 RS 305 TBI. I will also be rebuilding, upgrading heads, intake mani.....ect. If I am not mistaken, I have a roller cam in the 305 from the factory. This plus many Flat tappet cams show up in the search for my car/engine. I am not going too aggressive just a mild I suppose.

Thanks in advance for any input.

edit: Just looking to get upwards of 250-300 hp, will be a dd in warmer months with a couple runs to the track, thats all.

I think you can't put a flat tappet into a roller

you can, in fact, many trucks set up for roller cams had flat tappets. it would be kind of a set backwards in one aspect though, to put a flat tappet cam in, when you already have the roller lifter with retaining mechanisms.

That cam isn't bad, but you'd get the same power and probably better driveability with a LT1 or LT4 cam. Roller cams are superior in every way, and there's no reason to go backward technologically.

Re: Another camshaft question thread.

I'm pretty sure you would also have to change the pushrods too if you went to a flat tappet cam. You should try and stick with a roller cam for sure. If you are on the cheap you can use a used roller LT1 like Saabster said otherwise I would look into a cam with a bit more intake duration, more lift and a tune. Comp and Lunati have same really nice stuff if your willing to spend ~$300 on one.
