Yep, looks just like mine. Can't seem to find the specs on it though, but I guess it's a 3" non-drop base. If it is it's the right one!

Re: Just mounted Edelbrock Open Element

Well I purchased it, and everything looks like it fits, hood clearance is a bit rough but its doable

There was 2 models actually at oreillys, one was $35 and the other was $39. I purchased the $39 model and everything fits well. One thing that im wondering is what are the 2 sets of predrilled holes for and the included T?

As for clearance everything is fine besides what i attached below, is the the spot where touching is a nono? wires dont look exposed and thats the only thing that seems to touch or might touch.

hmmmm, i dont think mine had any pre drilled holes, or a T fitting included, but i bought the $35 version, all i can tell you is your IAT goes in a hole(mine was just a punch out marking) but im sure you knew that already, and i capped off all the vacuum lines that went to the old Intake

and yes thats the "nono" aread for any metal to touch, but i didnt do anything to mine and its been fine for 3 or 4 years now, if you really want to do something about it wrap it with electrical tape and it should be fine

Re: Just mounted Edelbrock Open Element

Mine has 2 Sets of holes on the bottom lid. Which seem to come off with a good pulling. The T I was talking about seems to let the IAT in perfectly. That might be it but I will take better pictures of it tomorrow morning.

Still was a very good purchase, I have to buy one of those filters to plug up the Thermovac hose or whatever its called that recirculates hot air to the air cleaner. One thing is, when I went to Autozone/Oreillys they seem to have a pre-hose installed to fit smaller hoses. Is that removable or does it just slip in the hose? Might pick it up this weekend.

Also for the little vaccumn line that went under the original cleaner, What would be a good way to plug it? Get a clamp and do it that way? I just taped it shut for now.

any vacuum hose that needs to be capped off, unplug it from your Throttle Body and buy some vacuum caps from the part store and cap it that way, its the cleanest way to do it and it wont leak

Re: Just mounted Edelbrock Open Element

You predicted my method! Saw some of those plugs at Auto zone and did that.

Also, Anyone try doing valve covers? I have been working on cleaning up my engine bay and the covers are really dirty, I want to pull them out and give them a good cleaning and a good paint job. I saw some chrome ones at Auto Zone that if I recall were center bolt, I might check them out next time I am there.

They are similar to these Part number #141-107 if the link does not work. They are the same but without the bowtie logo and are $68 if I recall.

ive taken mine off and changed the gaskets, but i havent put new ones on, the driver side is easy, the pass side is more difficult if your engine bay is stock line mine,

alot of people say if you buy valve covers dont buy cheap ones, they are too flimsy and will leak even with the best gaskets(i use rubber fel-pro's)

and remember before you put your covers back on(new or your stock ones) make sure they are as straight as you can get them, if there is even a slight bend its gonna leak

also when you take your old gasket out make sure you get EVERYTHING thats left over, i missed a tiny piece of old gasket and mine leaked.

and i Apologize to Daphi for letting this thread move away from the original intention, the way i see it now its turned into a "open element"/"clean my engine bay" thread

Re: Just mounted Edelbrock Open Element

Haha im sure hes cool with it.

Well for the most part my engine bay is stock, all the smog things were swapped over to the L05. The engine only under 15, XXX miles if my math is right. I removed the driver side cover a good while ago and the gaskets I put on were still good but I had Felpros replacements just in case.

Also here are some pictures of my element, Forgot to post em up! Sorry but it was taken from my old phone.

Buy a filter for it. I used a 19mm diameter filter for mine and it works great. It's not supposed to be plugged. You don't really need a filter, but it looks better and prevents "spills".

No problem at all! I'm glad my thread can help out other fellow firebird-freaks out there

My delete pulley for the A/C compressor is now mounted and my god it's sounds beautiful without the noise from the old compressor. Now you just hear the engine idling quietly and nicely and the only noise comes from the double 3" exhaust Everything works great and the car is 2 weeks from ready to roll! I'll post pictures when I'm completely finished with the car.

Once again, thank you CaveCock for all the answers to my questions. And thank god for thirdgen.org

Haha well unless the old compressor was failing, I dont mind mine. The thing that really overtakes my idle sound is the god damm fan. I have to leave it on or else it overheats

Well today my throttle got stuck and I really don't know if the cleaner caused it. Just for precautions I let it have some of the bump space it has on the punch out circles. It scarred the **** of my uncle though!
