Vortec Heads on a 305

I have a 91 Firebird Convertible with a 305 TBI & 5 speed. I recently got an LT1 cam for it but have not yet installed it. I have a buddy who is willing to give me a set of vortec heads with intake manifold if I help him install a LT1/4L60E in his 1966 Skylark.
The heads are aftermarket aluminum vortecs. Here are the specs I have:
190cc Runners, 64cc Chambers, 2.02 Intake valve, 1.60 exhaust valve.
The valvesprings have a max lift of .600, open pressure is 325#, closed pressure is 130#.

Would these valve springs work with my cam? If not what cam would you recommend for a street car with good all around power?

What is the compression difference between 58cc and 64cc?

I have shorty headers, an MSD, and edelbrock performer intake for vortec heads. I know I will need bigger fuel injectors, and a tune as well. The fuel pump is also stock. What fuel pump/ injectors would you recommend?

I also have a 94 Formula LT1/6speed, it will be interesting to drive a vortec 305 with an LT1 cam, and see how the two compare.

Thanks for any advice.

Re: Vortec Heads on a 305

2.02 valves on a 305 bore is generally regarded as a no-no. Unless you plan on using a really low lift cam.

As for compression, does anyone know the dish of a standard LO3 piston? Is it the typical 5cc? if so, with a tight quench you should only lose a couple points over stock. 9.3=>9.1

I would not use the 350 vortec heads with big valves on a 305. You may find a 350 roller short block to use them.

The LT1 cam is already a good start for a LO3, around 23psi fuel pressure with the stock injectors with tuned EBL is fun.

Re: Vortec Heads on a 305

Well I am pretty much getting them for free. I was going to pull the heads to do the cam swap anyways, and I thought these would help out a little.

Would these heads perform better than the stock heads? I realize they are not ideal for a 305 but if they help even a little I would do it.

I want to drop in a 350 eventually, but the 305 had about 200psi of cranking compression on all cylinders, so I figure its in pretty good condition and will be in there for a while.

Anyone know if the valve springs will work with the LT1 cam?

A little porting to the 187 may be a better idea.

To get an idea of what is going on https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tech...5cc-heads.html

For the springs you can compare to the ones suggested in the LT1 cam swap tread.

Oh, I see why I can't use them.
Thanks for the help, that would have been a recipe for diaster.

I might just get them anyways and hold on to them for a 350.
