How to clean EGR valve????

Can an EGR valve be cleaned out? Or is it better to just get a new one?

Re: How to clean EGR valve????

I have cleaned a few. Take it off the car and Just spray some carb cleaner in it. Let it soak inside for a while. Then press on the diapham to see if it is moving. At least it is cheep and simple to try brfore buying one. Is it sticking? What problems are you having?
edit: Also, while it is off spray some cleaner in the egr ports on the intake and scrape with a wire brush or screwdriver.

My engine surges badly at times and almost dies. Most of the time it happens in reverse. Especially when it's cold.

I dont think an egr valve would do that. Maybe a bad vacuum leak?

It may very well be a vacuum leak. When I bought the car I had found a couple lines disconnected and had to hook some up to get my A/C and heater to work as well. Any vacuum diagrams on here?

Ok im assuming you have an LO3 right? Autozone.com has a lot of good diagrams. You just have to sign up, but its free. Here is the link for the vacuum diagrams for your car. Im not sure if you can see it if your not a member, so if not, just sign up. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/rep...20auto%20trans.
