89 RS, 305 TBI, 85,000 miles, T-tops and for $1000? With fixable body problems, Hell yes.

Any pictures?

Good base for a swap, do some body work, lay down some paint, you'd have a pretty sweet low mileage Camaro.
I say go for it dude, but she won't perform like your Iroc whether she had a 305 tpi or 350 tpi, it may sound like it, but it won't. But like I said, good base for a swap!
Do it up man, offer him $800 haha.

Re: possibly buying a 89 rs

haha yeah i know it would never run like the iroc but it sure has potential.i thought about putting a 377 in it eventually, but thats after i do alittle work to it.first thing is a custom 3 inch exhaust and headers then some gears a motor then paint.i wanna put a fresh 377 in it or a 355 cause i think it be cheaper than messin with the stock motor.any suggestions on that?

350 TPI swaps are pretty common, of course you can upgrade to an HSR if you want a good flowing high horsepower 355. Lots of potential and choices. If youre good you could put in the ever so famous LS1 and t56, for fairly cheap. Great mileage and fairly well on gas.

Re: possibly buying a 89 rs

Sounds like a good deal...but personally, if you want TPI then buy TPI...unless you're well versed at mechanics. I just can't see buying a TBI car to swap to TPI when TPI cars themselves are often quite cheap.

Sounds like a great car for the money...

Are you sure it is 85,000 miles and not 185,000? I have the same exact setup and paid $1600 last year. But mine needs paint, has no rust anywhere, and 174,000 miles. I say go for it either way.

Re: possibly buying a 89 rs

yeah i wouldnt convert to a tpi set up.for 1 reason,it would b alot easier to put a carburated motor in it.besides it still wouldnt b a iroc.i found a few irocs on craigslist for 1500 but im making payments till i get my student loan to pay cash 4 it.which will b here in 2 weeks.working fulltime being a fulltime student and having 2 kids to take care of money is kinda strapped rite now thats why ill build a motor over the summer a 377 will b perfect for the rs.

Re: possibly buying a 89 rs

Buy it. Decent 3rd gens for $1000 are getting insanely hard to come by. And don't underestimate the value of that low mileage. My Camaro has about 200,000 miles on it, and while the motor is new, the body shows the stress and wear of all those miles.
