Does this make any since?
Well my car is still down for the moment, we ended up having to take it to a shop and even they really dont know exactly whats wrong with it.
It runs fine if you unplug the computer from the distributor, the brown wire on the passenger side u havta unplug to time it, but when u plug it back in it runs eradically, breaking up and backfiring, finally shooting fuel back up through the throttle body.
The guy at the shop thinks its the distributor, saying that they can magnetize and that will cause the problem. The only other thing I havent replaced on it is the PROM.
What do you guys think?

What is your base timing set at?
Have you tested all the plug wires for continuity?
Have you checked and rechecked the firing order?
Have you replaced the ICM or the pickup coil?
I'm no expert - but I'd try these things.

Re: Does this make any since?
Not knowing anything about your car or previous problems/mods to it I have to start with the basics. Unplugging the wire is like disconnecting the vacuum line off an older HEI. The computer is not going to advance the timing, that is why you need to disconnect it while setting base timing. So if it runs bad while it it connected, then you need to first check your base timing, then check the timing with it connected. Either with a light or your mechanics scanner to see what the advance is when the wire is connected. And of course ALWAYS check all grounds to make sure they are clean and connected. I have spent more than a few hours at work chasing a driveability problem around in circles only to find a broken or corroded ground.
