Hey guys im pretty new to the site, i have a 1992 firebird with a stock 305 tbi motor, i belive i have a 700r transmission, i owned a 88 firebird trans am gta a while back and it also had the tbi 305, however that car had alot more power, my new 92 will not even spin the tires, so i am on a mission to upgrade it, I am going to put all proformance ignition Distributor cap, rotor button, plugs, and 8.8mm wires, also a proformance coil. im hoping this will help a little, the car also already has duel exhaust well i say duel, i should say single in duel out. i would like to do a cam swap in the car but i need somone who knows what they are talkking about to tell me which cam and which lifters i need to go with as i will be taking you word and going to buy them, im just looking for that typical cam sound, and a little more power, after i have found out what cam and lifters i need i will have the heads ported and polished, i have herd some things about an lt1 cam swap will this work? please if someone can tell me which parts i need so i can get them i know i know people allways say dont work on a 305, just get a 350 by the time u spend the money u might as well get a 350 u will get more power cheaper parts blah blah , i dont wanna mess with it, and i know this will be alot of work but it want a 305 that has a little bit of power, i know it wont have as much potential as a 350 or a pontiac 400small but its what i wanna do, also is there any other mods i can do to it that will help, im thinking about putting a set of shorty headers on it, please let me know what you know, cam type size , lifter type kind, header type kind, if there is any kind of cold air intake for a tbi, any other mods that can be done proformance tbi intake? or anything let me know thanks alot.

dont waste money on an aftermarket coil. If your present coil is fine leave it alone. the best upgrades are a full exhaust upgrade. headers-back. and air induction. cheapest is open element air cleaner. cold air induction is good too. thier are threads all over this site on what people have tried. This site has the most extensive and vast knowledge of the TBI motor of any site on the net. use the search feature and you'll find all the information you need.
cool i also saw a twin turno kit, for this car, its 1500 thats alot but it may be worth it ill keep in mind what you said about the coil, no other simple mods toadd power

thier is a bunch of sticky threads on this at the top of this forum. basic tbi mods. advanced mods. etc. check them out. almost any question you can ask has already been answered.
i also had one more question a guy has a chrome air cleaner for my car. but i had a question about the vacuume hose that runs from the air cleaner to the front of the carb can i block that? also there is a skinny vacuume that goes from the carb to a round part on the air cleaner , and last but not least the air cleaner air temp sensor what will i do with that, with the after market air cleaner?

Dont put an LT1 cam....this is a much better cam upgrade and wont make the computer go crazy http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CCA-08-535-8/
Your block should be a roller block so you could reuse ur lifters
You better not put a cent into those terrible heads! You can find some cheap Vortec heads on ebay. Then you just needa get a vortec manifold and a tbi adapter
check out tbichips.com sells a 18psi fuel pressure spring on ebay...
I raised the fuel pressure a little on my friends modded tbi and the engine luved it...felt stronger
And this same dude sells performance chips for great prices
oh and ya a torque converter upgrade is a must

You may want to look into your rear end. ( differential ) What are you running for gears. I went from a 2.73 with a peg leg to a 3.42 with a Eaton posi. and it made a world of difference.
thanks for all the tips guys if anyone else has any other please shoot em at me i am doing checking on all this thanks

I swapped the gears and carrier. I spent allot as far as up-grading the 10 bolt. I feel lucky that one of the most reputable "Rear End" shops in all of Ca. just happens to be in Santa Rosa CA. were I live. There not cheep but well wort it by standing behind there work offering me a 3 year unconditional warranty on parts and labor. By the time I was done with a "complete" rebuild including a master bearing kit, axle bearings and seals, ring and pinion ,a new 28 spline Eaton posi., new 28 spline axles ,LPW support cover and labor it was over $1,000.00. If you can get away with gust the Eaton posi. and ring and pinion it would be allot less. Most guys will tell you its best to replace at least the axle bearings and seals while your in there. My cars not going to see allot of track time because its my daily driver and has some miles on it. I just felt if I was going to replace the gears and throw in a 28 spline Eaton I may as well do the rest.
