Overheating hard shifting and wrong air cleaner oh my
Well me and my dad finally got my rebuilt 350 swapped in my car took 2 weekends but its finally in. I have not started computer tuning yet but I got it started and "driveable" by adv timing to 8*. I'm using 350 injectors and I installed a adjustable fuel pressure regulator but have not messed with it since putting it on the TB. I'm having to stay with the stock air cleaner because the 14x3 i bought will not fit at all the bottom "dish" hits the coil and distributor. Any tips on getting this to fit? http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/50024/10002/-1
Well I just drove it for the 1st time today and it didn't go so well, 1st thing I noticed is my radiator fan is not coming on but I rigged my dual fans up to a switch which is in the cab its lame but it was last minute getting the car to start so I could get it out of my grandma's garage, Anyhow with the dual fans running it still overheats pretty bad. My rpm gauge works but seems shaky or jumpy what could cause this? Going 60 mph I was doing 3k and there was no difference in OD and 3rd (D), and for some reason it doesn't shift when its suppose to late or hard on all gears.
The motor's 1st drive was so bad I had to drive like that for 20 miles.. I pulled over half way to let it cool down because my cluster said it was all the way in the red but I checked under the hood my temp radiator cap said 190F, then when I got home my temperature reading was 270F off the cap!!!! it was a good ways past the red on the cluster but nothing is wrong that I know of so far still starts and idles "good"
Whats crazy is my check engine light never came on once while driving it, it did a few times when I had some vacuum hoses disconnected but once i plugged them back in the light turned off.
Any words of advice well be much appreciated

I fixed overheating issue but still having shifting issues I'm revving high then kinda hard shift but i just took my computer out and put in the 9c1 cop car prom in it and started for 10 secs and turned it off its late and car is loud with open headers so i will try in morning but does the computer having anything to do with shifting and when?
Any info on that darn air cleaner maybe i can relocate the coil?? or should i leave it where its at and buy another air cleaner?

I asked my dad and he said its adjusted. my tranny worked perfect on the 305 could the 350 be to much for it? I might need to take this to the transmission section of forum

Figured out how to get the air cleaner to fit gotta use the gold ring plus 1/2 spacer and put cardboard over the coil so there is no contact, clears stock hood perfectly even with my edlebrock intake.

I have the same type of drop base with the spacers also. I wrapped the coil wires with plastic wire loom and electrical tape on the bottom side of the drop base were the coil is closest. Just a little extra precaution. Cardboard can become moist with water and that is a conductor.Instead of cardboard you could use a sheet of rubber gasket material that they sell in 5"x 5" squares at any hard ware store. Sounds like a lot but you can not be to carful with a coil .Thats just my

I ditched the idea of a 14 x 3 cleaner housing for the same reason - I went with a 9in cleaner - no need for the spacer, or the drop base - since it's small it clears all the linkage and such.
Definitely make sure that TV cable is properly adjusted.
