One of the fastest ones I know of was my 312 TBI build.

The 350 vortec single plane build in my 5,600 lbs G-Van running low low 14s @ 99 MPH in the 1/4 was probably the most powerful build I have done using it. Was making around 370 RWHP and ran out of engine.

First time out 15.03 @at 89..last time hi 14's.(Trans was flaring very bad on 2 to 3 shift).Have added stall, new tranny , subframe connectors, eddy intake bored TB, Umi control, and panhard bars, headers, real ram air and a glass harwood hood, so im hoping to drop a couple of tenths.....With a "real" motor it should be in the low 13's, or hi 12's without to much trouble..i have been working on the suspenstion mostly..still want to replace the torque arm with the one that bolts to the frame, and not th tranny...Hope to get to the track next week, or the one after....

Re: 1/4 mile quick TBI

I have a holley 670 TBI with the built in AFPR in it. I'd just like to upgrade the heads because I think it will be overkill on my engine now.

Re: 1/4 mile quick TBI

I just replaced my TBI with a carb. With the 650 DP carb it ran a 13.9 @ 98. Mods are 310 cid, vortec 305 heads, stock LO3 cam, 1.6 RR's, shorty headers, cutout, stock stall, 3.23's and draglites. It's my full weight DD.

Re: 1/4 mile quick TBI

I never ran it with the TBI. It was running a little rough (stock chip) and I had the carb, HEI, and regulator from a previous build so I just did it. I'm sure it would have ran just as well with a smooth running TBI.

Re: 1/4 mile quick TBI

Gotcha. Im assuming you dont have smog. If I didnt have smog I would already have at least some vortec heads on there, I would probably carb it too

I haven't run at the track yet, but ran my 82 Crossfire on the dyno for the first time today. Made 240 RWHP and 270 ft-lbs. I am expecting one of the new Renegade crossfire intakes this winter and will run at the track next spring.

Re: 1/4 mile quick TBI

Doesn't the stock TB support close to 280hp~. I would assume stock top can support a mid to low 13 second engine. I am pretty sure I would of knocked a high 13's if I would of kept my 305 and done some work on it.

any reason for keeping the stock L03 cam? That is a terrible cam for performance. I bet even a stock LT1 cam would have dropped 2 tenths on that car.

Yeah that's probably one of the worst cams ever put into a stock engine haha.

I made 300+ FWHP with the L03 cam and 1.6:1 rockers with 059 Vortec heads.

Lol, this is actually the first time I've seen this thread. I haven't run my car at the track yet but I should be in the mid to low 13 second range by now. The car feels FAR stronger than before but I'm still working out some tuning/valve train issues since the H/C/I swap. The damn EBL keeps trying to add more fuel than what I need. I want to get this little motor in the high 12's before my 383 LT1 gets swapped in. I fully believe once I get the 3200 stall in I should be there.

101mph should be good for 13.7's, My gxp weighed about what a 3rd gen does, i was running 13.7@102 stock. Thats about 240-250WHP, rated 303 to crank, 324tq.

Not too shaby with a 305

Re: 1/4 mile quick TBI

The PO had the 305 rebuilt and used the stock cam. I put the 059 heads on. I just didn't feel like buying a small roller cam because I am building a 355 so this setup will be scrapped soon. But 13's with an LO3 cam and 310 cid is pretty impressive I think.

Re: 1/4 mile quick TBI

I dunno, I ran the same time with 3.08's...but the track was a little shorter then it was mismeasured. But yeah I ran a 14.64 with 3.08's and a sloppy transmission. 14.63 with 3.42's and a solid transmission.

This thread makes me want to get mine to the track next year. Unfortunately it's only 1/8 mile that's close. I have some suspension issues to work out as well as top end tuning for fuel and spark first though. I'll bookmark and see who I have to keep up with.

Sorry I have to say it but SHUT THE F#@K UP NEWB!!!! You honestly don't know what the hell you're talking about. Trust me I know from experience that TBI cars can be made fast. So instead of spreading nonsense how about you say something useful.

Re: 1/4 mile quick TBI

As long as the TB is sufficiently large it will be adequate to feed engine the air and fuel it needs. I run a GM 7.4L TBI. My motor(350) spins to 5800 rpms. However in my logs I am still seeing a slight restriction(94 MAP WOT with 98 MAP @ key on). I believe the restriction is in fact my TB unit being too small. No fault of TBI just too small. My NOS kit fixed that.

Carb's are less fuel efficient. On my daily driver I get 24 mpg freeway, I will get more when I get into tuning. I'll stick with the TBI.

Re: 1/4 mile quick TBI

My best is a 14.02 Bottem end completely stock, mods in sig. Running T5 manual trans. Extensive tuning with EBL and wide band O2 to dial in WOT. My goal was to get into the high 13's with the 305, came up .03 sec short. I'm currently building a stout 383 over the winter that will go in next spring. Plan to keep it TBI for the time being, but I know I'll have my hands full getting it the air and fuel needed to reach its full potential.

Re: 1/4 mile quick TBI

I took my junk to the track today. I am running AFR 180s and the LT4 hot cam. I had some trouble hooking up due to the stock rear. I might rebuild the rear with 3.73's and posi over the winter and see what that gets me.

Don't know what your complete setup looks like, but something seems a bit wrong here. With 180 AFRs and the LT4 hot cam you should be able to make somewhere near 375-400hp. I see the poor 60' time and that may account somewhat for the et, but if you were making hp like your potential you should be seeing 106-108 mph. Nice setup but I think you still have a few thing to work out. That thing should easily run low 13s.

Yea I did expect it to trap a little bit higher. I think the issue is some combination of my terrible shifting and the tune not being all the way there.

Re: 1/4 mile quick TBI
