A Pop in the engine

Sooooo, while trying to save a few dollars in doing a tune up on the car, I end up screwing up the car. I changed the distributor cap and rotor on the car, (mind you that I followed the the same wire set up on the original distributor cap). Then when I tried to start the car, the engine tried turning over and I hear a loud *POP* sound from the engine.
I had to call the tow truck and get it taken to the closest mechanic shop near my house. So much for trying to save money. Anyways, any thoughts I what I messed up?

Re: A Pop in the engine

Well, turns out the damage was more severe than I thought. I knew I needed a new starter for a while, just didn't know I was gonna need to replace the entire distributor and starter at the same time. Sucked up a good chunk of change, and it couldnt have happened at a worse time of the year. To my firebird, I love you as much as you're a pain in the *** sometimes.
