TBI Problems please help.

I know my probelms not thirdgen related but could someof the tbi guru's please help me here. I'm having some severe issues with my tbi swap I did over my Chrismas break and it's literally driving me insane. I started out by obtaining a very well maintained cherry 87 Montie Carlo SS 305 from a friend of mine that ran like a top before it was pulled and have since swapped it out with my sick 305 that was in my 88 gmc truck. Well this thing has fought me for the last 8 days and I haven't been able to get it to run right. The only thing I did to the engine was changed all the gaskets and seals and installed a new oil pump, freeze plugs, headers and electric fan. When I finally got it to run I set the base timing at 4deg adv with the esc disconnected. The engine doesn't smoke, has great comp, runs 191 degs setting there idleing but when I try to drive it all it does is spit and pop back through the tbi unit and die. I've tried all different sensors, new msd coil, different injector pod complete with fpr, tried a different dist but used the same ign module, checked for vac leaks and have none, also checked and readjusted the rockers and still no change. I had the engine reving to 5,000 at 1 point but now runs like it has no power. I'm going to my buddies shop to rob more parts off of my 383 that I'm building there. I pulled the plugs that they're a dark grey color. I havn't verified my fuel pressure as of yet and need to get a pair of collector gaskets also. So if anyone has any ideas or suggestions please help me cause this things my work vehicle and I really need it fixed. Thanks,

Had the same problem on my bird. Dist is off. mine was a tooth off. Dropped in a new dist lined it up the right way and now runs perfect.

I agree with the above poster. It sounds like a timing issue, either ignition or perhaps cam. Verify cam timing via dot to dot alignment. A timing light will verify ignition timing.

Sounds to me like you need to drop the rear axle and replace the fuel pump.

Re: TBI Problems please help.

thx for the replies but I swapped out the dizzy and installed an new accel ignition module then retimed it just like I did before and now she runs like a champ now. The next probem I have is it's hunting for idle it surges up and down, but I think that may be because of the bpc being set for the 350 injectors @ 13psi and while i was troubleshooting I installed a stock 350 injector pod so i need to reinstall my adjustable fpr and reset my fp then retune.

Thx for the help
