I called a dealership yesterday to ask how much a computer chip costs, he asked for information on the vehicle and then asked for the vin#. I want to change the chip to 350, my car is originally a 305. He couldn't give me a exact cost until I had a vin#, he did say around 80 bucks. I wouldn't think the vin# off my 91 RS would do me any good right??

Yup if you have to have a custom chip burned tbi chips is pretty much you main/only good option.

You cannot run a 350 chip in a 305 car anyway, so what are we talking about here?

Are you swapping to a 350TBI motor from a truck or Caprice? If so, just get a chip from one of those. You'll also need 350 injectors and 350 knock sensor.

 

he already put in a 355.

and technically you could run a 350 chip in a 305 car but it just really wouldnt run too well..

 

I'm not running a 350 chip in a 305 motor!! I have already changed motors a pretty much stock 355 is in right now. I've changed the knock sensor, the esc module , and the fuel injectors to 350. Trying to finish it up, and yes I did order one from tbichips.com. Instead of playing the find a needle in a hay stack game from another vehicle. Thanks

 

The dealership is like a car parts store and they have to start somewhere to look up parts. That's why the parts store asks year, make, model, engine, trans etc... but the dealer starts with vin# Also newer cars chip/PCM/program is all based on vin#

Older cars like yours may have had several upgrades to the origanal chip but if you got one through TBIchips then you will get the latest version of the chip.

 

I understand what you mean EagleMark, they aren't very helpful on modifications either. The guy I talked to told me to call a salvage yard for information of my problem. Oh well, got the chip in the mail today, damn rain stops me from putting it in tonight. Oh well tomorrow it will be. Thanks
