Intake question

I bought an air cleaner assembly from an 82-84 Trans Am to make my hood scoop functional. I got it installed but the solenoid doesn't actuate. Does anybody know where I can get a replacement or another method to get the thing to work?

Re: Intake question

In a stock setting, the ECM actuates the solenoid based on input from the TPS.
My guess is that your parts are fine, its just not wired properly. How did you wire the solenoid? Do you have a solenoid relay?

One suggestion would be to get a throttle actuated microswitch like people use to activate nitrous systems. When the switch closes at WOT, the relay will send power to the soleniod, opening the scoop.

Re: Intake question

Well I jumped it straight to the battery. I was going to put a fuse inline with it and I had one side of the connector straight to battery ground and the other side going to power through my multimeter (set in amps to see how big of a fuse I needed). It didn't do anything at all. Nothing moved and it didn't seem like anything burned up. I was going to wire it up to a toggle switch, but I never got that far.

Re: Intake question

Well, if the solenoid is not working, you will need to get a new or functioning used solenoid. Sounds like you tested it properly.

Re: Intake question

Well that's what I figured. Any ideas where I can get one? I'm kinda doubting GM sells these anymore.
