Critique this setup...
So I am pondering purchasing an 88' Formula with the L03/5speed combo. Rear is the stock 10 bolt with the non-posi 3.08 gears. The car runs good, and I plan on going through it completely and giving it fresh tune up components and fluids/filters. It also has a few mods, including:
- Ultamite TBI (which I think is an open element with the related mods done to support it)
- 3" cat and catback
- subframe connectors and LCAs
- new(er) clutch and throwout bearing
- B&M short throw
I have a few parts left over from other cars I've owned for the last 10 years that I was thinking about throwing on this thirdgen. They include:
- Hedman long tube headers (that fit the thirdgen platform)
- A/C delete with heater only box
- ZZ9 cam
- 3.73 4thgen rear
Of course, a tune will be necessary (as will new valve springs), but the only thing in question is if the ZZ9 cam is too much for the stock motor/heads to support. I'm thinking that its gotta be better than the super-wimpy stock cam, and even if I can't do heads, it should still be an improvement.
Assuming I get it tuned and put new valve springs to support the lift of the ZZ9 cam, would this "free" combination of parts still be something I should avoid? Or would it be OK to go ahead with?

That article has alot of info on the TBI stuff, as well as the other stickies at the top of the TBI forum. Also, that article has links to the "Ultimate TBI mods" articles to give you an idea of what they are (much more than just an open element filter).

Why not. I'd do this. it may not be the best but its what you have. If you dont mind spending your time on it then go for it.
