L03 exhaust size?

Hey guys, I was looking into getting headers and an exhaust system for my Firebird and its going to remain an l03 for a while as its my DD so i gotta keep some gas mileage.
Anyhow I'm gonna be putting exhaust and a dual CAI on it and i was wondering what size exhaust I should put on. I was thinking hooker headers (not sure what kind yet, aerochambers or darksides) but past that i was thinking Y pipe and maybe 2 and a half inch pipes from the Y back (no cats)

I was wondering if that would be too little back pressure and i'd start burning oil, Also was wondering a general HP/MPG increase/decrease that someone has done or can hypothesize about.

Re: L03 exhaust size?

Well if you have emissions testing that requires a visual inspection you'll need HOOKER 2055 headers and y pipe. If you plan on upgrading eventually i'd just run a 3 inch exhaust now, but you could get by with a 2.5 no problem. I'd say a full exhaust upgrade with a header install and your an easy 25 HP+

And, I saw a pair of hooker darkside headers for sale in the for sale section on this site. If you dont have emissions testing then you can use them. But I dont know how the fitment is. But you can always ask in the Exhaust section of this site and im sure someone will be able to answer your question

Re: L03 exhaust size?

I see what your saying, i don't require emissions testing so i was leaning towards darksides, With the dual 4" CAI would that bump it up about 35 40 HP you think? Thanks for the quick reply!

Re: L03 exhaust size?

well im sure you'll deffinately gain something. The stock air cleaner is so restrictive on these cars. You dont really need a dual 4 inch setup unless that is what you want...a single 4 inch would be enough to feed it.

Re: L03 exhaust size?

The reason I was gonna get a dual 4" is that its for some ridiculous reason its cheaper than a single.... Don't know why but thats what oreillys said lol.
A dual to me looks cooler and the way i see it you can't have your car breath TOO much right?

Assuming sarcasm there... lol
Would a Ram air be better than a dual CAI?

No such thing as ram? I don't quite get it... thought there was lol. So overall thats a good setup and i should see some decent HP increase. Any thoughts on mpg increase cuz its my DD..

Re: L03 exhaust size?

I did hooker 2055s, 3" catco cat, 3" dynomax. What a difference. Like uncorking it. I'm not so sure how duals would be cheaper since you will need custom work done for that. With a single 3" all the parts will just bolt together.

Re: L03 exhaust size?

Mileage should increase if stay out of the pedal. More efficient, more torque with less pedal.

Re: L03 exhaust size?

A 4" dual plenum (carb hat) for a cold air intake is cheaper, I have no idea why but thats what oreillys has lol
Sorry for the misunderstanding

Re: L03 exhaust size?

id run a y pipe into a single exhaust and if you want to split it over the rear end for the dual look then do that IMO
