Lots of fuel problems, running rich, flooding...

I put a new 350 in my 89 TBI. I have a few problems. When I turn the key to on, the fuel pump primes but doesnt stop after the 2 seconds. When I crank the engine the injectors both spray but flood the engine. The fuel pump is fairly new, so I don't think it is that. Any ideas on why?

Sounds like the injectors are open.Sure all the wires are hooked up? check the connectors at the injectors for power.

If injectors check out my next move would be the regulator check fuel pressure with key on and also at cranking

Are you saying the f. pump runs continually even if the engine isn't running?
Yeah, check the uel pressure, but also check the ecm grounds on the back of the heads. Do a resistence test of the coolant temp sensor (google for the temp/ohms values) as this can make it run rich. Also blow through the return fuel line w/ the gas cap off. It should be unrestricted.

Re: Lots of fuel problems, running rich, flooding...

Ok, so miraculously the fuel pump is now operating normally. Hmm... My only problem now is that as the fuel is being injected the car wont start. It seems lean instead. It will start with starter fluid, and I can keep it running by fluttering the throttle. But it wont idle and as soon as I let off the throttle it will die. The fuel pump is supposedly new, I am considering the fuel filter. I am going to check fuel pressure one of these days when I can afford to by a tester. Any other ideas on what might be wrong?

Why buy a tester. Borrow at auto zone.

I am having a very similar problem with my 305 tbi. It gets better when I take off the vacuum line from the front of the throttle body. Does yours do that? Does anyone know what causes this?

ECU hold any codes? I would run the test to see what is there. I presume no CE light "on".

I'm not sure about the OP, but my ses comes on after a while. Advance said they can't read codes on a 92 thou. Also my exhaust appears to be cut off, would this affect anything?

You need to read codes by jumping ALDL and count the blinks. There are OBD 1 code readers. Advance apparently does not have one.

Re: Lots of fuel problems, running rich, flooding...

You need to do a search or maybe it is in stickies. My ECU does not require a jumper. I believe on ALDL there is a port that you jumper the ALDL connector to ground. Dont do just search and confirm. First CE blinks are 3 blinks -pause- followed by the error code blinks. Like 3 blinks pause 5 blinks pause and 3 blinks. the 5 blink means a specific code. You need to locate chart and determine the sequence of blinks for each code. If all 3 blinks then no code present. Maybe a video U tube???

I am pulling code 24. I checked fuel pressure, and at cranking I get about 15 psi.
