Maybe a Igntion Control Module - it's located inside the distributor under the rotor button - just remove dist cap (mark wires on cap if you have to remove them), pull out rotor button, and you'll see it under there. They can be tested at most auto parts stores, but a test does little good most of the time. They stop working when they get hot (like any electrical part), and testing it doesn't make it hot. If you replace, or remove the old one and reinstall, make sure you use dielectric grease on the metal plate before reinstall - this grease keeps the plate from rusting, allows electrical contact, and the rust build-up creates electrical resistance thus increases heat thus makes unit go bad.
There could be other issues at play, but that's the first thing that comes to mind.

Unless your Parts Guy runs it through several consecutive tests to get it hot.

Not sure I would call this a "fix", but you could install a lower temp thermostat. I run a 190 without issues in my 305 TBI. Assuming it only happens after 200 deg.

I had a similar problem on my 88 camaro. It would get to about 200-220 and stall out, but if i let it cool down for 10 to 15 min. it would fire right back up. I changed the pickup coil, never had a problem since.

very possible. OP may want to change entire distributor. Take module back and apply towards new distributor. I hate throwing parts at cars. IMO you may want to take to an auto repair facility and have them diagnose it.
