Hi, I have a problem and maybe one of the seniors can help me....My car starts without problem when I remove the air cleaner assembly, I put it in drive and I can drive the car but when I install the air cleaner assembly and I put it in drive it dies.

I installed the air cleaner assembly and try to start it but nothing happens.

I appreciate any help.

 

If you're properly hooking everything up with the air cleaner assembly, there should be a vacuum hose right up near there. The removal of the vacuum hose when you take the air cleaner assembly off could be what is allowing the engine to run and when you reattach the vacuum hose, it drops the idle to a speed that dies when you put the car in gear.

If that's the case then there's another problem to address, which is independent of the air cleaner assembly.

As far as the air cleaner assembly is concerned, the only other possibility I can think of is the Ambient air temperature sensor or something that's located in the air cleaner, however, I don't think a faulty sensor could cause the engine to die.

Check that vacuum hose that I mentioned.

 

Thanks for your reply, I am going to check all my connections again, about the little hose going to the tbi I think I am going to replace because its soft and maybe is collapsing with vacuum.

 

problem fixed, the timing was way off, now I have to adjust the valves
