Crossfire EFI

I know there are tons of threads on crossfire injections, and tons of speculation, so i am trying to find real unbias information. SO the story is I am trading an old carb manifold for a CFI unit from a 1984 Corvette 350, i am pullign it off the car and plan on grabbing every bit of wire from the unit. I know it is gonna need somework to get cleaned up and functional again, but my plan was to use it on a 305 (supposed HO) from an 88/89 Camaro. I know the center head bolts are a different angle on the heads so I was planning to machine the CFI base manifold or changing the heads to an earlier style 305 head. However I am not 100% certain what else I need to do to make this system work together. I know I know, the standard approach is ditch it and go with something else, but I am planning on swapping the 305 and CFI into an 84 pontiac Feiro with a 5spd manual transmission and I am trying to get a retro "Could that have possibly been stock?" look out of the project. The last thing on my mind is making a ton of power as 180 HP is enough to make a Fiero stupid quick, and i already have an 86 Camaro with a 350 and blower that is fast enough to do somethign stupid in. So i am really aiming for functionality, and looks, So what other headaches am i going to run into in this CFI adventure that might slow me up? Any websites that have GOOD information on them that I can read and learn from would be appreciated.

Sorry for the odd nature of this post but I am finding it hard to collect un-bias information on a system most people LOVE to hate...

Thanks...

Re: Crossfire EFI

You will need a wire harness that serves a crossfire application(painless product?) and an ECU with a manual trans chip. TBI Fuel pump. 190 walbro maybe.

Re: Crossfire EFI

The conversion of a TBI 88-92 F-body to 90-92 SD TPI is not that complex. My point? Your existing harness may be a lot more useful for a TBI SBC swap than one would think.

My understanding of CrossFire intakes is that the flow swirling blades need cut out and the intake at that point flows comparably to an OEM carb intake.

I'd much rather go for the later '746 or '747 ECM if I were doing a TBI swap. Parts availability and DIY tuning support are gonna be obscenely better than the CrossFire stuff. I'd guess the same would apply to the TB itself. And really, frankly there are OEM 4bbl style TBI intakes (or the adapter used in the BBC TBI engines on a 4bbl intake) that wouldn't need the adapted center bolt holes.

As for the engine, look at some of the OEM rollers (LT1, LT4, ZZ4, Ramjet to see if there could be improvement on the stock cam without going costly or needing to change springs etc. Even if you're not well-versed on cam research, a side-by-side of the specs of each or a post here with questions will help you get more torque under the curve overall.

Re: Crossfire EFI

With a TBI harness all you need is to parallel wire the 2nd IAC motor and isntall the IAT sensor in the intake.

Does he have a wire harness? Donor car for CF manifold only with pigtails. Recipiant is a Fiero. Maybe make your own. IS the distributor on the 88/89 camaro gonna fit the CF manifold? I think a SES/CE light is a must. What ECU to use 8746? I would consider EBL...

Re: Crossfire EFI

This isn't really port injection, so I'm moving it to TBI. Maybe they have more info there. RBob knows a lot about crossfire if I recall, He helped a guy a couple years ago with an '84 vette that got some pretty good magazine exposure.

Re: Crossfire EFI

UNLIKELY. Not many shops deal with the low end EFI setups. Most install FAST or Accel
BigStuff etc. OBD1 is generally not supported. check tbichips.com or burn a chip yourself.

Re: Crossfire EFI

Your ECU is most likely not supported. you may need to swap to a 122 8746 or 122 7747 or any other supported ECU. Then you or a for hire burner does a chip. See above stickies or in TBI read "free tune". see tbichips.com

I also have a complete 305 T.P.I motor that has wireharness and computer. Can i use this in anyway to convert to TPI system buy useing the manifold and the heads, it came of of a 85 or 86 camaro? or would that be to much work?

Re: Crossfire EFI

would seem easier to swap in a diff computer(8746). requires a diff connector at harness side. so a lot of soldering. Or adapt the ECU to stock harness with a ham board from diversified crossfire solutions
