Fuel pump replacment question
Fuel pump replacment question
I read somewhere some time ago that a firebird fuel pump was the best unit to use when replacing a fuel pump. My car is a 305 tbi camaro with a holley throttle body. (new) Would the fire bird tpi fuel pump push more pressure than the stock 305 tbi camaro fuel pump.

Re: Fuel pump replacment question
Don't go with a 255lph fuel pump, it will overwhelm a stock system.
A TPI fuel pump works well at the lower pressures that a TBI system run at.

Re: Fuel pump replacment question
yes i am getting inconsistent fuel pressure. and from what ive read its because the return system cannot keep up with the volume of fuel the pump is delivering. so im switching it to a tpi pump. I cant tune if I dont have a consisitent pressure to tune off of ya know?!

Could you notice the fuel issue after installing the 255 lph pump, before you tryed to tune it?

Re: Fuel pump replacment question
Oh kind of an old question. but yes. I installed this pump and at the time i only had a liquie filled gauge on the car and I put it at 20, but it would read all over the place but never over 20. I hooked up a mechanical gauge that I would use at work to test someone's fuel pressure. and it said 50 psi. the car ran decent before the EBL as I had a hypertech chip. but I had a high spark knock count so i figured I needed a real tune. After the tune and with the stock timing curve again, the problem seemed to be uncovered more. But to do a tune I needed to know a constant fuel pressure, and I can't do that with an inconsistent pressure so that is where I am at now.

Re: Fuel pump replacment question
so now the pump has been installed and I can finally have my constant 20 psi I think I need. so I can finally start to tune. yay! haha. I replaced the walbro 255 with an ac delco stock tpi pump.
