CFI has certain gremlins that seem to baffle many. The of idle stumble and hunting idle has driven many mad. That's just a few notable ones.

Just soak TB and top side of intake with PB-bluster and it should loosen up after sometime. The TPS sensor is easily replaceable.

Re: tbi to cfi

I thought the throttle bodies and intake manifold were the same part but as the pics labeled above describe it would seem that the throttle bodies are connected to a sheet of steel that covers the intake manifold, then the manifold. my prob is getting the throttle body head off I'm not too sure where to hit it with the rubber mallet on account of the fuel lines being in the way (and it would seem that the fuel line that my two throttle bodies share one side is stripped so it won't come out) I just doubled checked pic #2 above and saw the six bolts you were referring to were actually inside the manifold lol

I you are trying to remove the throttle bodies: once you get the bolts out, you have to pry up on the throttle body base. There is a roll pin under the throttle body that is a press fit. Gently pry the throttle body straight up and off the short roll pin. DO NOT HIT IT SIDEWAYS WITH A MALLET!!!

Hey RFmaster, do you have any pics of the exhaust manifold connecting to the Y pipe? It looks like the last person that worked on this car snapped both head bolts off. I want to get a idea of where the bolts are and if you have any easy smart ways of getting them out. I was thinking of soaking them in pb buster then try to vice grip the out clockwise through the bottom

@Lichowild

Sorry, do not have the photos.

IFRC the exhaust manifolds use 3/8" studs. A quick search for '83 V8 Camaro yielded 14050282 RH, 14071188 LH exhaust CI manifolds. The RH uses 3 and LH 2 studs. This may not be correct. However a quick search through TGO yielded this information:

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/hist...-manifold.html

This info is from the '82-'88 Camaro Parts Catalog.
These numbers are for the both L69 and '85-'86 TPI 305 (VIN F). It's noted with or without heat stove as Jamesc noted.
'83-'86 F (305 G,7) 14071200 RH
'83-'86 F (305 G,7) 14075611 LH

These numbers are for the both the TPI 305 (VIN F) and TPI 350 (VIN 8)
'87-'88 F (5.0/305 F, 5.7/350 8) 14094063 LH
'87-'88 F (5.0/305 F, 5.7/350 8) 14094064 RH

It's interesting the LG4 used 2 different manifold part numbers broken down to '82-'86 and then '87 which the LO3 shared when introduced. The CFI LU5 also uses the earlier ('82-'83) LG4 manifolds which hurt it badly.
'82-'86 F (305 H) 14031361 RH
'82-'86 F (305 H) 14043373 LH
'87-'88 F (5.0/305 H,E) 10046123 LH
'87-'88 F (5.0/305 H,E) 14094048 RH

I hope this helps but my info only goes to '88. I'm in the process of swapping my LU5 manifolds/y-pipe to ones I got from a L98. Remember the y-pipe for the LG4/LO3/LU5 doesn't interchange with the L69/LB9/L98.

Re: tbi to cfi

I've got a CFI vette and love it. Yeah you can outrun it on foot oh well. But I have found CFI really responds well to elevated temps over stock I run mine between 205 and 224 seem to make idle quality better and throttle response crispier (perhaps it helps fuel atomization and lessens fuel puddling.

I've also found they love H.O. exhaust systems

84 vette proms

electric fans

higher output alternators since efi loves juice

TPI fuel pump

I've never had port work done though or after-market heads but think that and a better cam would wake them up. Perhaps vette 113 aluminum heads would do them good too.

CFI is ok system

probably would look killer with polished intake and throttle bodies and chromed air filter.

Re: tbi to cfi

bummer I'm trying to get my exhaust manifolds off and I think the heads of the bolts snapped off last time it was worked on so I've been hitting it with pb blaster going to try to get some wheel lifters and get under it turn it through with some vicegrips unless you have a better idea. F.Y.I. I'm hitting low funds do not have a drill or bolt cutters (even if I did there is no room to cut it lol)

Re: tbi to cfi

@Lichowild - let make this clear the bolts in question are between exhaust manifold outlet and Y-pipe? Let PB bluster do the work over couple of days - soak the joint.

Probably the best tool for removing stripped bolt head (or a nut ) is a turbo socket. I own SK set which saved me great deal of aggravation over the years. If you are working on the exhaust system GM used 3/8-16 fasteners with a common 9/16 bolt head. You can a single turbo socket as funds permit.

Re: tbi to cfi

just wondering, what are the names of the gaskets for the CFI camaro that fit between the engine and intake manifold gasket? I got a intake manifold gasket but evidently it's only used along the sides leading into the cylinder heads from intake manifold. As well as the name for the gasket that goes between the intake manifold and throttle body plate.

@Lichowild

Well, it is an intake manifold gasket (set). Look for FelPro MS91440 (it is a complete intake kit which includes upper plate seal and TB gaskets)

or VICTOR REINZ MS15315BF (it is a complete intake set, but does not come with TB to top plate gaskets)

OE Part# 14034932
