No luck with ALDL cable, please help!!!

Here's some basic info:

aldl usb cable from aldlcable.com
using winaldl to datalog
car is a 92 camaro TBI with 8746 ecm

From what I have gathered on here, the 8746 ecm is a 160 baud and should work fine with winaldl.

I have installed the drivers for the cable and serial port converter, and I even called aldlcable today to make sure I was doing it right. The com port that the cable is installed on (com 3) shows up on the device manager so the drivers are definitely installed properly. After talking to the guys at aldlcable.com, he told me that my ecm was a 8192 baud and that I would need to download either Tunerpro RT or TTS datamaster. I looked on the datamaster website and the LO3 is not on the list, and since RT costs money I don't want to buy it unless I know for sure that the program is the problem. I have seen a few threads on here that people are using winaldl to datalog there 8746 ecm with no problems, so I have a suspicion that the program is not the culprit.

Has anyone ever experienced these issues with winaldl and a usb cable? I have verified that the ecm is in fact a 8746 unit and was not switched out by a PO, and I also checked the A-E pins on the data connecter and got voltage that was fluctuating, as well as 5 volts on the A-M pins. At this point I am out of ideas. Someone please help me out!!!!

I just wanted to add that the box at the top of winaldl is white, not green, red or grey like I have been told it should be.

Yeah, I've tried that. I've also tried shorting A-B, both to no avail.

Yup, it's set at 4800 in winaldl. If the little box on winaldl doesn't blink red or green, is it even seeing the cable?

Re: No luck with ALDL cable, please help!!!

Thanks. I emailed him and asked for his help so hopefully I will hear back from him soon. As for the settings on my laptop, the only thing left that I have yet to try is overwriting my drivers with the virgin xp ones. I don't really know what I'm doing there, so I'll wait to here back from joby and see if he can tell me how to do it.

Re: No luck with ALDL cable, please help!!!

Well I downloaded TunerPro RT and it says at the bottom that the hardware is not found. I even called Bob from aldlcable.com and he said to test it by opening hyperterminal, connecting to the come port, then taking a 5 volt source and putting it across pins a and e, on and off on and off to see if anything comes up on the screen. I tried it with the baud set at 2400 and 4800 and had no luck. It looks like it might be the cable after all. I'm sending it back tomorrow and I'll see what happens with the new one that they send me. Wish me luck!!
