firebird!!!!!

so today i went to look at the firebird. it was a very great car. almost no rust aside from a small spot on the passenger side quarter panel by the tire. the engine runs great too sounds like a strong little motor. no knocking or ticking. now the thing is when he first started it there was blue smoke on the start up coming out of the open edelbrock shorties. but when he started it up again there was no smoke. could this be because it was sitting? and he claimed to have oil in it but when i pulled the dipstock it was bone dry. could it be possible that the oil pump is shot? i didnt notice if the oil pressure gauge had any life or not.

what do you think im dealing with?

Re: firebird!!!!!

oh yeah and nothing appears to be leaking or anything. its all pretty solid aside from the common build up of road sludge and grease.

Re: firebird!!!!!

Well, it being low on oil is a bargaining chip.
Its probably valve stem seals leaking, esp if there is sludge build up causing the oil to pool up at the top end. Could also be a internal intake gasket leak.

Re: firebird!!!!!

you think i should take the oil pan off check out the bottom end and replace the oil pump? or is that completely unnecessary? and he said when he pulled the motor the lifter valley was gunked up so he cleaned it up but the bottom was clean. i mean its a great motor it sounds amazing im just wondering what all i will need to fix. i know that for 800 i cant complain because the car body is just about spotless all except like 2 small areas that can be sanded down and patched up with bondo
