hey guys i got a 89 rs tbi stock 305 with headers and MSD box well when i got the car it started up find all the time now it takes forever to start and when it does start the check engine light comes on sometimes when iam driveing the light comes on and i cant get any codes and just now it died on me while iam driveing but it took ever to start ann it started an drove fine any help? maybe fuel pump rely

 

Your first problem sounds like a fuel pump relay. Put hand and ear near tank and have someone turn key on, no crank start and the fuel pump should run for 2 seconds.

You should be able to find a code set if the CEL came on?

Dieing? If you have the MSD harness it's pretty easy to unplug and run without it to test. MSD also fires spark three times low RPM and longer at High RPM so check cap and rotor for wear. Also causes wear on coil... if your going to run MSD box you should also run MSD cap, Rotor and Coil good wires and check spark plugs, use stock replacements, snake oil improvemnet plugs cause lots of problems if not right away in near future, smaller electrods like 3 and 4 are worse...

Check fuel pressure!

EST module in distributor is also a known glitchy item, have it tested three times, if it fails any it is bad.

Ok I check all that and take the msd box out put it back stock and change the relay and the est thanks for the help iam gonna do what u said thank u
