Stripping my first harness
Stripping my first harness
Okay, as the title says, I'm stripping a TBI harness that I pulled from a '92 Chevy Truck this weekend. I started on it last night and pulled apart the firewall pass-through which appears to be filled with some sort of hot glue. To make matters worse, the wires appear to be bundled in some sort of plastic harness that is buried in the mess. I cut away some of the glue with a razor blade, but that looks like it will take forever and that I might possible damage the wiring.
Is there a right/better way to do this? Heat? Solvents?

Re: Stripping my first harness
I soak them in gasoline to soften/loosen the goo. It takes some soaking over several days to get it all, but it makes it real easy. Be careful about pulling the harness out of the plastic frame, as they usually wrap a wire or two around the inner post of it.
