wondering idle and shuts off using EBL

i was fooling around with the base timing to clear up some hestitation and part throttle response and it seems to have helped but now the car shuts off whenever i come to a stop. Do i have to do a ve learn again or do i need to adjust something else like the iac steps. Also i cant seem to get the motor to idle steadily. Is there a trick to it?

Re: wondering idle and shuts off using EBL

set whatever the initial timing present at distributor same in initial timing in .bin(constants).

Set minimum idle speed. I believe procedure is explained in stickies. Do back to back VE Learns and it should get better as far as BLM.

I presume you are idleing in CL vs using OL idle option in EBL.xdf.

Is your IAC functional? Can you witness its movement to confirm?

We need more info.

Part throttle response may be lack of AE or SA ?

Ill change the advance constant in the bin and the IAC is def working. Ill do a couple VE learns and see what happens. How do you know if there isnt enough AE or SA unless you just make a bunch of different bins with higher and higher values.

Re: wondering idle and shuts off using EBL

AE is the easier of two. Start lean on AE and you will see a lean pop in intake or a stall. this would be evidenced with a WB install(highly recommended).

SA is difficult. Best done on a dyno. that is how the mfg's do it with many many hours and multiple sensors(heat). WOT SA is max MPH without detonation(see plug). Same could be said for a specific rpm/map for max MPH. What I did is use a stock SA table that resembles my head design. I am using a table that appears halfway between the AKXY(1988 iron head 350) and ARAP(alum head 5.7 L98). max timing is 44 deg at low load and max WOT is 35 deg. I could go higher on SA but have not.

Re: wondering idle and shuts off using EBL

Set the Intial SA in the tune and did a few learns with no luck so Im just guessing that the 4degrees I had it before was fine but need more SA in the lower RPM parts of the table. Ill play around with it later this week. If I have ported and polished 081 heads what SA table would make a good match. the EBL comes with a bunch of different base tunes but nothing other that the stock TPI table.

Re: wondering idle and shuts off using EBL

Being TBI you don't want to use a TPI SA table, even though they are TPI heads. Try the SA tables from the base TBI cal: EBL_F_TB2.BIN. They are for 416 heads which have a similar chamber to the TPI heads.

Since you have done VE Learns just copy the Main & Extended SA tables over via Tuner Pro into your current calibration. Flash it in and give it a try.

Note that the base distributor setting also needs to be set in the calibration the "SA - Initial SA" value. Then adjust the actual running SA in the main table.

Re: wondering idle and shuts off using EBL

The new flash and lower base timing fixed the stalling. Still feels sluggish. Where can I find some info specifically on the AE and PE and how to tune them. Theres so many tables....

Also in the flags section is the box that says set, if thats checked does that mean its on or off. I would assume on? Im trying to make sure the egr is disabled.

There is a lot of info on tuning in the DIY_PROM board here at TGO. Be sure to visit the Tuning Guide Book sticky on that board.

If the Set box is checked, that flag is activated.
