I AM NEW TO THE SITE AND I NEED SOME HELP BAD!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE
I just bought a 1989 camaro rs t top car with a 305 tbi for a grand. The orginal motor was a V-6 I do belive. The car smokes at an idle and when you first take off but when you get on up it doesn't smoke. The smoke smells like straight gas and the car doesn't burn any oil. What can it be??? (some of the emissions control system isn't hooked up) Somebody out there please give me some advice. I might not reply back tonight but i will first thing in the morning. Thank you in advance

I would change out the O2 sensors as well give it a full tune up cap rotor wires and plugs go from there and then we can move on

well welcome to the site, i agree with the tune up. Does it do anything else like rough idle, sluggish under acceleration, etc. or does it run fine and just smoke?

Not all the emissions stuff is necessary. Not any of it really. But, if your in a state that tests for emissions and/or does a visual inspection, you probably don't wanna pull it out. There is plenty of info on here about deleting emission systems so I would take a look through there if you do decide to remove it, to make sure you do it right. Also, are you getting any SES(service engine soon) lights coming on? if so, have you read the codes? Tune-up is always a great place to start on a new car.

Check for high fuel pressure, make sure the map sensor is hooked to manifold vacuum, test the coolant temp sensor, check ign. timing. What makes you think its was a v6 car? Give us the 8th number on the vin.

My car was doing same thing. Had eradic low fuel pressure due to failing fuel pump. Check your fuel pressure, probably regulator or pump issue.
