tbi performance

i am creating this thread to keep track of all my work. since my car is a tbi 305 i thought the best place to post was the tbi section. this will cover all the work i do to my car. i want to keep everything i do over time to a single thread. creating multiple is hard to keep track of.

the performance upgrades i plan to do eventually to my car over time are as follows

- bbk intake electric fuel pump. 255 lph (part number 1630)
- msd distributor (pn 8366)
- msd blaster coil (pn 8226)
- msd spark plug wires (pn 35599)
- hooker headers (2460hkr)
- hooker y pipe (pn 16767hkr)
- dynomax cat back (pn 17495)

i would also like to do an intake swap as well maybe a performer air gap.

i was thinking about doing a head swap as well but i decided to leave the internals alone so i wont have to get much into fine tuning the system. after some research on here it seems like there isnt much you can do to these systems to keep it within boundries of the factory tuning set up. i prefer not to mess with the computer. i may end up changing my mind on what i plan to do with the tbi set up but as for now the exhaust is definite

Re: tbi performance

i picked up a 327 engine from a relative. its got an lt1 roller cam kit and 350 tuned port ported heads. i will be swapping it in most likely tomorrow. i will put my serpentine belt brackets on to the engine as well as the tbi unit and distributor to keep moisture out.

i changed my route, now with a slightly larger engine, im going to convert to a carburetor and upgrade the fuel pump to the bbk 255. the exhaust will be the hooker headers and y pipe.

im not sure if i want to get a single muffler with a turn down after the y pipe or run it all the way to the back.

Carb is a step backwards in the wrong direction IMO. However I was not aware that you could easily fit a LT1 roller cam into a non roller block! The really puzzling part is why??? I can litterally think of 10 different flat tappet cams that I would use that would make more power than the LT1 cam.

Not sure why you want a BBK 255 when a stock TPI pump will supply all the fuel you could possibly want or need for a TBI engine up and over 40 psi. I have seen 500+ HP carbed 383 engines running 150 HP shots of nitrous running a stock TPI pump with great sucess. As the pressure on the outlet drops the flow increases exponentially on the TPI pumps. They flow around 190 lph @ 43 psi and likely close to double that much at 20 psi.

Re: tbi performance

the cam kit isnt necessarily an lt1 cam or a kit at all. the specs are similar to the lt1 and l98 cam. the retro fit lifters are pretty old too. its about a 2 to 3 year old roller engine. im not going to waste any time with this 305 or the throttle body injection either.

after some hard consideration yesterday a ton of research i looked at my options. it seems as though i could build a 385 stroker on a budget.
