surging at 1/4 throttle
hey everyone this has been driving me nuts for a while now
my 88 camaro 5.0 305 tbi surges violently at 1/4 throttle between 2,000 to about 3500 rpm's. now my tac is way off so that is a guess on rpms but it surges so violenly that it will spin the tires then go to idle about once a seccond. i have replaced the tps, plugs, wires and other misc parts. i watched the injectors work without the air cleaner on (aftermarket round one) and they seem to go wide open then off nothing in between. please help the car has been doing this since i got it and it is kind of embarassing. the only solution to stop the bucking is to mash the throttle or let off completely. but boy she runs like a champ when you mash the throttle

Do you get a service engine light? The RPM error might indicate a problem in the ECM or pickup coil in the dist. Know anyone with a scanner to watch the sensor outputs?

Re: surging at 1/4 throttle
ofund the problems one was clogged fuel vent line, and the other was what was causing the issue of surging... i did a little digging and found i had only 7lbs of pressure at the throttle body, so i was set to pull the fuel pump and replace it (not an easy task in your driveway by the way) i got the tank down and took the pump out and noticed a 1/4 in hole in the rubber connector that connects the fuel pump to the sending unit. so i was losing pressure back into the tank. replaced that rubber connector and the pump and screen and bingo back to running like new. in the process of dropping the tank i had to cut the exhaust so i put a new flowmaster 40 series on it and boy is sounds good now.
i have a feeling im gonna need new rear tires soon :-)
