2 Years in the making/Now I want more

Well I started with a 91 RS Convertible with you all know a week 305 TBI and auto.
Now I read the forms and that was the only thing along with the help from you all and 400 hours of overtime at work and it now has a 350 but still has a rebuilt 700r4 and a moiser 12 bolt.
I fought with tuning it my self for almost 2 years. I got the EBL Flash from RBob and it worked but after hours of tuning and latterly 100's of email with RBob I gave up today. I took it and put a stock ecu in it and had it dyno tuned and a chip burned. No offence to the EBL Flash I just didn't get it.
So if anyone wants it email me and we'll work something out.
My little 330hp vortec GM crate motor puts out 252hp and 307#'s of torque to the wheels. Which kicks the 305's butt. I built it as a racer not a dragger.

But... now I want more. With everyone's help I hope to get 400hp to the wheels. But I want to keep the TBI. Or maybe I'll go TPI this time.

So thanks to everyone here especially RBob.

Obviously the 330hp gm crate engine is no race engine, but why did you not have it dyno tuned with the EBL? that would have been a lot easier, quicker, it has extended tables and everything it needs to run a custom performance set up.

400rwhp is in the top limit of 2 big TBI injectors but sounds doable, I would use a single plain intake manifold, a 383 ci long block built to produce 460fwhp does not sound too complicated, mainly the $ and the right parts.
No way you can get away with the stock ECM, but you already have EBL

MPFI Multi Port Fuel Injection is not a bad idea but TPI not really, for reference the later L98 f-body engine needed the full SLP package to allow the the 290fwhp long block to produce around 285 fwhp, with the stock TPI set up it was choked to 245fwhp. However check with the TPI experts if maybe a First TPI set up would work for a 460fwhp set up and what is involved.

Re: 2 Years in the making/Now I want more

I could not find anyone that knew what an EBL is. Beleave me I didn't want to pay to have it tuned. I thought I could do it myself. Oh well it's only money. Yet another 600 bucks into the money pit. But It's worth it.

I did find yet one more problem. The drivers side plugs are oil soked. With #7 fouled out completly. I'm thinking the intake manafold what do you all think? It's a Vortec so it doesn't have the bolts that the normal heads have and not too tight. Inch pounds.

What do you think about an Ls motor? GM makes some real nice ture key crate motors. At that time I think I'll swap out my 700r4 with a 6 speed. Only time will tell. I'm also thinking about a new Camaro. But with that there's the debate of 6 or 8, auto or manual. I love my 3rd gen but hell I am done at least for now. I could have bought a new one for what I have in this one.

Thanks for the travels this form has been indespenable to my build.

Considering that GM rates those crate engines pretty conservatively, and considering the low overall amount of power, losing 80 horsies through an automatic transmission and 12-bolt seems really excessive.

First Guess: Your tune is way off. Getting the engine to run to it's potential would make a huge difference.

Actually that is about right for that setup, especially if its breathing through the TBI Vortec conversion intake. I know a guy that had the same engine with a set of roller rockers on it and it put down right at 250 RWHP through a 700r4/NP208/8.5" 10 bolt in his truck.

The factory rating is GROSS on that crate engine and would likely shrink to ~280-290 NET and be further decreased through the transmission and rear-end.

A stock as GM created 255 Net HP 350 Vortec put down 198 RWHP in my Express.
