Re: 300 hp 305 build!
You would be surprised what an honest 350-400 HP 350 TBI engine would run like in a 3rd gen. I would start with a Vortec truck 350. I just picked up one from a local shop in running condition from throttle body to pan, fan to flexplate with full accessories for $400 that was rebuilt 30K before a 6.0 swap. The deals are out there, just have to look for them. I picked up a 4-bolt main L31 6 months ago with a 4L80E behind it for $800 with less than 100K from a 97 1-ton 15 passenger van.
what i like about the TBI is that its a very simple fuel injected setup
i was reading way way back also of people just adapting carb intakes to tbi setup also i cant remeber the thread i seen that it was years ago
yea take time and search good deals are out there got to have patients tho lol

Re: 300 hp 305 build!
i agree as long you work on the tbi unit to support the setup all should be good and back by a 6 speed that should be fun i miss my Rs it was fun lol i was heading that same route getting 350 vortec and keeping tbi just wanted to see how far i could go before reaching the limits , but modifying tbi and chip made a big difference on a 5.0 i cant imagine upping cubes and using far superior heads would do ,

Re: 300 hp 305 build!
Those 454 tbi units look amazing when fully worked on
iirc stock tbi "regular" units flowed like 470-480 cfm i think
whats cfm flow on the 454 units when fully worked on prob more than enough to support 500ish hp
If i can convince the wife to get another thirdgen after this deplyoment in afgn. But i have more leverage now since i have a boy coming soon , looking into getting a stick 6 speed tbi sounds different lol
I like tpi its nice looking intake but its a hassle to deal with and remove etc simplicity of lsx and tbi are big plus for me

Re: 300 hp 305 build!
So this is what it comes down to really and then just finding the deal is all.
I can either get this right here (read whole thing)
http://paceperformance.com/i-6237688...no-intake.html
Read the specs.
Or I can get a runner core for cheaper. The cost/benifits.
Crate motor, brand new, no wrrying about bad stuff, but costly...
Used motor, high miles, near the end sometimes, and parts, but it a cheaper motor.
For the stroker i wanna build I kinda wanna either do promax 2.02s, or the summit casting vortecs. Only differences is the promaxs are 2.02s, aluminium, vortecs are 1.94s iron.
Then a stroker kit.
But If i get the crate motor that will give me time to beef any parts up that will be needed, and still have good power around 250-260 at the wheeels hopefully.
i like getting things cheap, but sometimes spending a lot for a brand new thing that will last a long time is worth it correct?
Also, this sounds dumb, but the 1996-200 350 vortecs have the vortec heads, and are roller motors correct? :P

Also, i would have to upgrade the tbi if i went for the stroker if i wanted to keep tbi... How much/how many parts would have to be upgraded? the tb's, ecm, whats else?

Re: 300 hp 305 build!
Also, Im going to keep the tbi, as since there is a vortec system, but I know i will need a different starter and fly wheel right? If i use a 1996-2000 350 vortec motor, but keep the tbi stuff.
Also, any vortec motor they all want like 1200 bucks for it. So I was thinking going an gettin the stock replacement vortec motor from pace performance. Here...
http://paceperformance.com/i-6484921...-8600-gvw.html
then really All i would need to do is upgrade the springs and i could get a meatier cam

Re: 300 hp 305 build!
I may have found a better deal. But I nees criticism on this part
1995 350 its roller set up but non-roller. Vortec heads. A 212/220ish duration at .50 cam .510/.510. Ported gm pperformance manifold the cam will also come with the lifters. Or a whole set. Then 350 injectors with 350 ecu or ecm... which ever one it is. Ultimate tbi mods with the bowl. That shouldnt be to hard to computer right? I know that the speed density deal gets out of wack around 220 duration... what kinda of power would j be expecting. .. and its probably going to be bored to 355... maybe a stroker... Good? Bad? Flaws?

Re: 300 hp 305 build!
IIRC
caprice and roadmasters had roller 350s tbi
95 and under "trucks" where flat tappet
96 and above "trucks" where all rollers
Honestly if you worried about budget just stick with good used engine ,deals are out there , be patient and look , and research on what you want goals etc and gather a list of parts that u need

Re: 300 hp 305 build!
Im gonna have to dig into the tbi programming and specs and such. Fast355 could be of some assistance, So I may be asking you a few questions here and there...
Re: 300 hp 305 build!
I have a 305 tbi. It runs good for what it is. As far as a chip, I passed on that, bypassed the fuel pump relay and advanced the timing with the engine not running. Since I have low mileage I am considering replacing the cam and lifters. They were bad from the manufacture. But when it finally starts smoking, I will get it bored to a 350 and put about 400 or 500 into the heads, with headers and a good exhaust.

Re: 300 hp 305 build!
You can't bore or stroker a 305 to a 350. i think the biggest you can make a 305 is a 343?
I just swapped in a 1997 l31 vortec. Used a cop caprice car ecm and injectors. After I sell my 305 I will have only spent $630ish on the whole swap. Deal are out there you just got to look for em.

Re: 300 hp 305 build!
283, 302, 327, and 2350 share the 4 inch bore. the strokes are different though. 350 is a 3.48 stroke, I dont remember the 327 stroke or 283, but the 302 has a 3 inch stroke,,, Really high revving. Haha
