Mild TBI Perfomance

Hey guys. I have a 92 RS with a 305 in it and I am currently in the process of doing a mild performance build to have fun on the streets. I already have bought headers and next is a cat-back exhaust system.

I understand the principle of making horsepower pretty well and have already read the Ultimate TBI thread. However, it has been surprisingly difficult finding an intake manifold upgrade from the stock one. I have found some, of course, but those are high rise and do not accept EGR which is the complete opposite of what I am looking for. So I am turning to you guys to find help in getting an intake that can suit my needs.

If you could, drop any links that you may have. Also along with the intake please leave me suggestions for other small mods, such as a cam, new throttle body, etc., I can do to help with power. (Please don't consider engine swapping. I know that a 350 makes power lol)

Thanks in advance!

If you want to see a huge difference in performance and increases the fun factor by 100% then you can replace the 2.73 rear end gears to 3.42 or 3.73 ratio and add a L.S.D. .

Also replace the stock Servo in your transmission with a Corvette Servo .It only cost about $25.00.
Shifts will be much firmer. It is worth it .=

Re: Mild TBI Perfomance

yea what Ron said, gears and a posi will be ur best spent money and make it quicker.cause also put a bigger stall converter in.you can use a regular carb intake if you drill the center bolts out and use adapter for the tb.I had a 91 tbi 305 and tpi heads and a open air clean made a nice little change in it

So you guys are saying 3.73 gears which is something I have thought about in the future. Correct me if I'm wrong but if I were to swap in the rear end from a 4th gen, wouldn't it be killing 2 birds with one stone because don't they have both 3.73 gears and come posi-track?

About how much were you putting out to the wheels with all of the mods and if you remember, around what price range?

Re: Mild TBI Perfomance

I modified the car in 2001. Heres a rough price list of what it cost me in 2001-2002. I did all the work my self with exception of the gears and exhaust install.
Intake manifold 350
Air intake used 200
Hood 300.00
Lt1 cam 100.00 bucks used with 40000 miles on it
March pulleys 160
Converter 300.00
Gears 275
Auburn posi used 150
Install gears and posi with new bearings 350
Slp headers and y-pipe 500
Cat back 450
Install 550
Blaster coil 80
Custom tuned chip 200
Matched injectors 175
Aluminum drive shaft 150
It took about 2 years to put all the mods into the car. I started out at a 15.7 in the 1/4 mile. She ran a best of 14.2 when I was done with drag radials and hotchkis rear suspension. Before pulling the motor to build a 350 for it I sold it and got a 4th gen z28 as my daily driver. Wonder where she is now.

Re: Mild TBI Perfomance

Yeah the block was a 102000 mile stocker. Thats why I was gonna ditch it and go l98 tbi but never happened. Tbi can be quick if you get rid of the poor flowing heads. I ran my car with the seats out the spare tire removed as well as the front sway bar removed. It made a difference for track days but all went back in after since it was my daily driver. Fun car but too slow. I figure it was around 275 to 280 hp not bad from 160 stock hp but crappy compared to a l98 z28 if I would of started with one of those. I put alot of money out to barely hit the low 14's

What does that Corvette Servo actually does to make the car "perform better"?
I came across it on the internet a few times before, but I have no clue about what it does.

Re: Mild TBI Perfomance

It changes the rate of how fast the clutch is actuated in the transmission. I had one in my 1991. Was great on the street, bad for snow... lol

Instead of the gear slowly shifting it shifts faster. it's what gets you the "chirp" sound.
