82 Camaro crossfire help

Hey everyone. I just inherited an 82 Camaro with crossfire system. The car has only around 40k miles but has been sitting for about 6 years. My question is how do I go about getting her cranked over? The fuel pump is bad from what I have been told. I do plan on eventually rebuilding the throttle body's and bushing them. I know there's going to be issues but my main concern is the fuel that's been sitting in the system. How Do I go about cleaning it? Thanks

Pump the gas out, drop the tank, have a look inside and clean it out if necessary. You've got to do it to change the pump, anyway.

Re: 82 Camaro crossfire help

with only 40k,TBIs should be in good condition-in the crossfires I have worked with, the fuel system past the tank has always been clean-seems the fuel drains back to the tank after a week or two.It is likely the injectors are stuck after sitting 6 years-pretty easy to unstick if they don't free up once exposed to fresh gas for a while.IAC valves might be stiff and could get out of sync. My original fuel pump lasted about 220,000 miles and was still working, but output pressure was low and causing poor performance.Sometimes the foam rubber coupler hose from the pump to the metal line in the tank will turn to goo and blow out.

Yup - that's exactly what happened to mine. If you are dropping the tank to put a fuel pump, get yourself a pump for a 1985 Corvette. It makes more pressure then a TBI pump. Later on, you can make your fuel pressure adjustable and bump it up a bit. The stock range should be 9-12 but the Crossfire likes 14 PSI
