EST wire and timing

EST wire and timing
Hey all,
Ive been fighting this car a while now and still cant get it to run right. Recently I put new plugs, wires, cap and rotor, Iac, fuel filter, and 02 sensor.
Since the install the car is sitting at 2000 rpm (give or take a bit, the gauges are tired) at idle with the EST wire unplugged. TPS voltage is at .54 and Iac is reset by doing the jumper method.
When i plug the EST wire back in the car drops to normal RPM range but the idle is staggered and it seems to be very rich. It will drop a few hundred RPM and then recover doing this pretty consistently.
Any insight on why it idles high when the EST is unplugged?

Re: EST wire and timing
Some basic recommendations.
Set base static idle without the IAC control since you did a new IAC. Also, since you did a new rotor and cap, check base timing.
Also, as stupid as it sounds, double check your work, make sure you go the wires on in the correct order, and all of them are seated. I once spend 6 months tuning around me having put the 4/7 wires on wrong. It happens to everyone.
When you get to unplugging things while the car is running, you can get funny results. Those are meant to just test basic functionality. The key to happy TBI is to get the static stuff set as good as can be, then all the computer adjustments are small adjustments, which is easy for our slow old computers to deal with.
