Not getting fuel

So I just got this car and thought it was the fuel pump. The guy drove it to me, cut the car off, then it wouldn't start back. It will start with starting fluid. Changed the fuel pump relay, nothing. Took it to the shop they changed the injector pulse module, still nothing. They said it would start some times but not consistent. The fuel pump would come on when I went to get it but no start. They said must be ecm or bad wiring some where. I got it home and swapped the ecm with one out of my old car. I could hear the pump working and it started. I let it run for about 5 minutes then cut the car off and now the pump is coming on when you turn the key on. Could something be shorting out and frying the computer? Any suggestions on this or what I need to check?

Re: Not getting fuel

I'd check the ICM. Recently changed mine out. Car would would start up fine and run a little bit and when I turned it off would overheat the old ICM and it would crank but not start. Next I would check the injectors and see the spray pattern, maybe OHM them as well. Keep us inform of your actions and results. Lots of good ideas here in the forums.

Re: Not getting fuel

The fuel pump would run for 2 seconds when the key is turned "ON", after that the pump won't run unless the ECM is getting a signal from the pickup coil through the Ignition module OR the engine has oil pressure.

Crank it long enough to build oil pressure, the fuel pump will run.
