Trouble starting when cold 305 TBI
The last couple of times I have had trouble with cold start. It will start with the familiar rev, but it doesn't stay running. The only way I am able to start it is to hold the throttle down like it's flooded. When It starts, it runs rough and very rich until it clears up, then it runs fine. I blow lots of gas out the exhaust. I thought the coil may be bad. I have new cap, rotor, wires, and distributor. Any ideas would be appreciated. This is a 92 TBI 305

Connect a scan tool, look at the data stream. I'd be especially interested in coolant temp sensor, Idle air control, and short- and long-term fuel trims.
Wouldn't hurt to verify fuel pressure, too.

I replaced the cts, and the starting issue is gone. Funny thing is I replaced it this early spring, so I put the old one back in and it works. still having trouble with temporarily stumbling after the engine is warm, and I start and drive. It goes away, but it's annoying. I can't figure that one either.

Check the connector for the CTS. Many times I've had to replace both at the same time due to corrosion on the connector pins/terminals.
