1989 camaro 305 TBI shuts off when coming to a stop.

I have look high and low on thirdgen to find someone who has had the same problem as me. So far I have found some with similar issues but nothing exactly like my situation. When i purchased the car it had a hesitation problem when it got up to operating temp and I checked the codes and it was the ERG valve. I replaced it along with the fuel filter and the problem went away. Then it started to die when coming to a stop. It always starts right back up the idle and in gear rpms are where they are supposed to be. So far I have replaced the iac valve and set the minimum air. I have also rebuilt the throttle body. The issue continues! The previous owner also did a tune up before I bought it (spark plugs, wires, break booster and fuel pump). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Connect a scan tool, look at the data stream. I'd be especially interested in the commanded idle speed versus the actual idle speed.

What is your fuel pressure?

I have a ‘92 Firebird w/ a 305 TBI and if I let the fuel tank get down to a 1/4 tank the car will stall if I stop or make a u-turn. Starts right back up and I fill it up and it doesn’t do it again until I get down to 1/4 tank. Moral of the story: I don’t let it get down to a 1/4 tank, lol. From what I’ve read it’s to do with the baffle in the fuel tank and whether or not there is one. It’s not bad enough to mess with especially with having to drop the tank, but if the fuel pump takes a dump I’ll deal with it then.

Have you checked the timing? I had a similar problem for years before I thought of that, spent hundreds replacing sensors, ignition, and wear items before I tracked it down.

Try getting the fuel down to almost E. See what happens. Sometimes, the pick up hose attached to the pump rots, so you wont know its bad if you have a full tank or even half a tank.
