1989 Firebird with the 305 tbi

•it cranks but doesn’t start and it’s not spraying fuel from the injectors until I get it running with Starter fluid, than the enjector doesn’t constantly spray and the car just wants to die and I constantly have to throttle it to keep it running and it won’t sit at idle...

i think it’s either enjectors or the TPS
Any suggestions ¯\_(o_o)_/¯


Edit: I just put a brand new fuel pump and fuel filter in it.

 

I used to have a TBI truck and one of the injectors would stick. I'd tap it with a screwdriver and it would spray fine. It stuck 2-3 times in the 4 yrs I had it. My car is TBI and in 8+ yrs it never had gave me trouble. I upgraded to a bored unit but still have my old unit that r a n flawlessly, I would sell it if somebody needed it. Off an 89 Firebird.

 

I would try a tbi rebuild kit. Replace gaskets on the unit and screens on the injectors. Spray cleaner through injectors while u have them out. Make sure the injectors go back in correctly. You can also put probes on the injectors to ensure they are opening when receiving a charge.. u can look that up on YouTube.

I did this and noticed that afterward my injectors sprayed differently.. better.

 

WHAT IS YOUR FUEL PRESSURE? Does the pump prime when you turn the key from "Off" to "Run"?

Connect a scan tool, look at the data stream. I'd want to see what the IAC is doing, verify the TPS is working properly.

Make sure that there's no problem with the pickup coil, module, or harness from distributor to ECM. If the computer doesn't get a signal from the distributor that the crank/cam are turning, it won't provide injector pulses--no fuel spray.
