Hey all. I was just getting under my hood with the intentions of performing the ultimate tbi mods and making my fuel pressure regulator adjustable, when i got to thinking: seeing how the stock tbi setup is calibrated to run slightly lean anyways, when you crank up your fuel pressure doesn't the ecm see this from the o2 sensor and compensate for it? Also, I'm running a stage 2 superchip (for now...)- should I be less inclined to mess with the fp or will I benefit regardless? I know the chip supposedly 'maximizes air/fuel ratios', but knowing ADS who knows if that's actually true or not...? I was thinking the way the injector pod is flat on the top must disturb the hell out of the incoming air too- anyone ever try making an 'airfoil' for it? Thanx for any replies

It's my understanding that at WOT the ECM doesn't adjust for lean rich conditions. This alows you to change richness during WOT by simply adjusting FP.

Joker is dead on. The ecm doesn't bother looking at the o2 sensor under WOT and/or PE (power enrichment) mode. The o2 sensor isn't accurate enough to compensate for such a fast change in enginer parameters (rpm and manifold pressure).
The ADS chip is worthless in my eyes and many others. They don't do enough to make a noticable difference in performance. Infact almost all aftermarket off the shelf eproms for our cars don't do anything until like 100kpa MAP and 4000+rpm. It's a joke really. You could do better by just playing with base timing and fuel pressure!!! Even better is a custom eprom.
As for the adjustable regulator, check out my website. I have a link to a pdf file made by Vader (another member). He's got pictures and is very descriptive in the process, definatly better than the tech section here.
As for the air floil, no point. You really want to do 2 things to increase air flow. Minimize surface area/volume and route the air around the problem parts. With the stock air cleaner they force the air to come from above the TB with that stupid spacer AND silence ring. The best would be a flat base (or drop base for clearance) open element air cleaner. The idea is that the air would be coming from the sides rather than the top. This dramatically increases air flow since it basically takes away the injectors from the equation. Now the only problem is the injector pod base/fuel pressure regulator. No way around it, just make sure you have enough air cleaner surface area in the front 270 degree's of the TB.
