Difficult starting and its searching for an idle....

Now that I am at college, my Camaro is not driven everyday. Sometimes, when i crank it over it will fire and then just stall. Then it is really hard to get it started. The cold doesn't help either . Also, a few times it will almost stall or idle up and down......while warming up. What could it be......mabe a sensor???

I had the same problems with mine, and it ended up being the fuel filter. My car still had the original filter, and when they took it off it was almost totally clogged. Just an idea, hope you figure it out.....

I just replaced the fuel filter about a month ago. Isn't there a sensor for idling, or something. Thanks!

The idle air control valve limits the idle... it could be your problem but if the engine rpms come up to a fast idle when you start and fall off when it warms up, its probably still good. My 305 tbi does the same thing but im gonna pull the motor soon and i dont use it much so i dont really care. If you do find the problem, post it. (id like to know why mine does the same thing)

When was the last time you had a tune up??? It may be as simple as the air filter or plugs.. i would start with the easy stuff like that first... as for the idle jumping around and almost stalling when it is warming up, mine did the same thing when i brought it out for the winter (i store it all winter), so I am not sure about that one...

Me.... I gave it the works. New plugs/cap/rotor/wires/timing/battery cables and cleaned connections
Rebuilt the throttle body (dont know why, im probably gonna get a better one anyhow)
new air and fuel filter and the pump still sounds strong so its probably not that

The engine does jump up in rpm's and then drops, sometimes bad enough to stall. I have a new K&N air filter and Autolite Platinum sparkplugs. They were both done in the past 3 months. I am currently at Rutgers College of Engineering in New Brunswick. I live on Livingston Campus. Thanks for the replies!

check your fuel pressure regulator!! Everybody says I'm full of sh*t but it sounds like the same problem I had with my S-10 ('90 350 tbi)- it drove me nutz for months. I tried everything, tested everything just like it says to in the GM service manual AND rebuilt the entire intake with all new gaskets/hoses,etc. I was about to tear the whole motor apart when my gf let me borrow her tbi out of her 4.3L S-10 & it fired right up and ran great. Try the IAC too, those go bad all the time. It could just be stuck tho, especially if it's been sitting for awhile. Less likely but still possible it could be your tps or map. Well good luck
